Gregory Boyle, the author, says, “God is asking you to move toward forgiveness and healing and peace. And everything is going to be fine.” His central message focuses on the sacredness of life and the power of forgiveness. Gregory Boyle conveys the gang member’s accounts in Homeboy Industries. His determination to transform young men and women to their original state is evident. The author urges gang members to pray to God, especially in tough times. He believes men and women are able to combat their problems and return to their original condition. For instance, the gang members fully realize the power of forgiveness after their conversion. Moreover, the author informs people to follow their decisions instead of others. The ability to
be true to oneself is powerful and impacts one’s future profoundly. Throughout society, people face hardships and seek for God’s help and forgiveness. We remind ourselves of the sacredness of life and the power of forgiveness. God creates each person uniquely and protects our bodies from harm. In return, individuals must respect their bodies and show love to God. Moreover, God’s forgiveness enhances our relationship with him. The compassion and forgiveness of God helps us grow stronger as a person. Gregory says, “We’re all created equal, but we don’t all end up equal.” (pg77) Individuals are capable in formulating their decisions and understand the consequences. The importance of one’s conscience is to make an accurate decision without the help from others. God leads us to the right path, and our responsibility is to follow his way.

Throughout the years, women have been mistreated brutally by gangs in their neighborhood. In a memoir by Luis Rodriguez, Always Running, the main character experiences many random acts such as shootings, rape, and many arrests. Even though, Luis may seem like a very tough young man, he gives the women the respect and love they wish to receive from a gang member. When a young girl begins to date a gang member, she begins to see how quickly a situation can escalate to a violent scene and abuse. As soon as a young girl is expose to that lifestyle, they tend to get mistreated mentally and physically by other gang
Family is one of those words that have a significant meaning to various individuals. Family may be viewed one way to an individual and another way to someone else. Family consists of those who have played a particular role in one’s life, whether it is positive or negative. In this paper, I will assess Reymundo’s family both nuclear and extended and speak of how his family has become significant in his life and how they have played a role in his decisions. I will also speak of my personal reactions to the story as well as address ways that as a social worker I could work to impact the gang problems in Orlando.
Coming from a devout Catholic family, Gary Soto encountered the ultimate sin as a six-year-old when he was tempted by a delicious apple pie. But his guilt is expressed in more than just a frown; through his tremendous writing, Soto practically transforms his guilt into its own being. His attention to detail in each description demonstrates his ability to carry the reader through his writing, from the imagery behind his guilt sweat to the repetition of hearing the plumbing “howl”. In some ways, the readers themselves begin to feel guilty right alongside Soto. Written from the perspective of Soto’s childhood self, the story vividly details the sickening guilt that follows him after he steals an apple pie.
For this assignment I decided to read the book Code of the Street: decency, violence, and the moral life of the inner city by Elijah Anderson. This book is about how inner city people live and try and survive by living with the code of the streets. The code of the streets is basically morals and values that these people have. Most of the time it is the way they need to act to survive. Continuing on within this book review I am going to discuss the main points and arguments that Anderson portrays within the book. The main points that the book has, goes along with the chapters. These points consist of Street and decent families, respect, drugs violence, street crime, decent daddy, the mating game, black inner city grandmother. Now within these points there are a few main arguments that I would like to point out. The first argument is the belief that you will need to accept the street code to get through life. The other one is the belief that people on the street need “juice”. For the rest of this paper we will be looking at each one of main points and arguments by going through each chapter and discussing it.

In order to completely understand the manner in which authority figures actions become reflected on society, a reader must observe the social system through the eyes of the narrator. Marquez begins Chronicle of A Death Foretold by establishing the town to appear very religious. The novel commences with the townspeople thoroughly preparing for the yearly arrival of the bishop. The whole town arranges for his arrival, bringing him many gifts and animals. Although Marquez establishes the city as consumed in religious dedication, a reader must analyze the thoughts of the townspeople in order to truly understand the society. The individuals of the community make elaborate preparations, not to show their spiritual devotion, but to benefit their personal selves. Each person concerns themselves with receiving a blessing from the bishop. The people seem to be...

George Herbert's “Redemption” concludes that you cannot buy redemption for man's past sins. The extended metaphors of the imagery alludes to religious perspective of the theme. “Sin” deals with the Christian belief of sin in general.
