Holiness is something that separates something from the others. It shows that something is whole and healthy and sets it apart from bad. God has Moses teach the Israelites about being holy. God is holy and he wants His people to live holy lives as well. Moses helps the Israelites with the holy laws that contain both promises and punishments. Throughout the entire Bible God reveals that He is holy. He calls Himself the Holy One. He is not unclean and is not evil. He calls us to be holy like He is. We are His imagebarers and He wants us to seek Him through our holiness. It helps with our relationship with Him. Wiersbe stated that, “true happiness begins with holiness” (Wiersbe, 2007, p.206). Many times they wailed about how miserable they were and how it would have been best to stay in Egypt. In the book of numbers, God becomes angry at their wails and punishes some of them. Even after the earth opened up and swallowed these men and their families, some of the Israelites were still complaining. It is hard to fathom not trusting in God when he is clearly present. I would like to think that if God were clearly present and speaking directly with man today, we would listen and be content. God wanted what was best for man. As the creator, He knows what is best for His creation. Some of His consequences may seem harsh, but as a father, He was trying to teach His children how to live holy. He uses promises and consequences to teach His children, much as we do to teach our children. The only way to have a relationship with Him is to remain holy. These two chapters helper the reader to understand holiness and the importance of it.
The teachings and practices are significant today because we need to be sure that we are holding our self to the same set of laws and morals. If all people were living without rules and laws, the world would become chaos. Most importantly theses teaches help us to understand the importance of being holy. It is crucial for man to have a relationship with God in order to have everlasting life. In order to do so we need to be sure that our relationship with Him is holy. Because if it is not, then we are not truly loving
