Shaka kaSenzangakhona, also known as Shaka Zulu, was one of the most influential Zulu leaders in history. He was a great king and conqueror to the Zulu’s. He was best known for uniting many of the northern Nguni people into the Zulu Kingdom. Shaka was born in what is known today as KwaZulu-Natal Province, approximately in 1787 and died on the 24th of September 1828. He reigned from 1816 to 1828. Shaka was the child of Senzangakhona, who was a highly ranked chief of the Zulu kingdom, and Nandi, who was a daughter of a Langeni chief. Information with regards to Shaka’s birth is unreliable, as it comes from many different sources including oral, which means some of it can be lost or misinterpreted. He had such an obsession with his mother, that it was said he never had any sexual relations with any other woman. When Shaka’s mother was dying, he was so full of anger he ordered several men to be executed. In 1827, his mother passed away and in his grief, he ordered for hundreds of Zulus to be killed. Shaka always forbid anyone from working on the fields or crops, leaving starvation for the Zulu’s. After the tradegy of his mother’s death and the starvation of the Zulu’s, it was clear to the people that Shaka was not thinking straight. In September 1828, Shaka was murdered by his two half brothers, Dingane and Mhlangana, who stabbed him to his death. They thought that his thirst for blood was actually a mental illness. Having died without an heir, Dingane became the next in line for king of the Zulus. Today Shaka is admired and honored as one of the most influential leaders to rule the Zulu’s. Sacagawea was born in 1788 into an Agaidika (Salmon Eater) tribe of Shoshone Native Americans which is located in todays Idaho. When Sacagawea was twelve years old she and several other Shoshone girls were kidnapped in the midst of a battle between indian tribes. At the age of thirteen Sacagawea was sold to Toussaint Charbonneau, a Canadian trapper, where he took her as his new wife. By the age of sixteen, Sacagawea was already pregnant with her first child. Although Sacagawea had a rough start, she still went on to make history.

After achieving enlightenment, he was able to spread his teachings which eventually became the religion we have today. However, Buddhist principles are not shown simply through the words of Gautama, or the Buddha, but they are defining characteristics of the Buddhacarita. He saw that the British had the same thinking as the Ibo on how their own culture is correct but all others are wrong. While Obierika was recognizing this his friend, Okonkwo, committed suicide. This was the turning point where Obierika realized that everyone needs to be able to change and this event was definity change. He betrayed some of his traditions and decided that Okonkwo should have a good burial even though it was against their belief to bury someone who committed suicide. “We he has be buried we will then do our duty by him. We shall make sacrifices to cleanse the desecrated land” (Achebe 208).

Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei in a small rural community in the easterner cape of South Africa. On 18july 1918 and named Nelson by one of his teachers, Mandela led the struggle to reinstate the apartheid rule of South Africa against racial discrimination. As well know as a democratic leader he was incarcerated for 27 years. Has been awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1993 and 1994 Nelson Mandela been voted as South Africa first black president. He starts by saying that on January 22nd, 1879, 200 British troops were defeated by the Zulus as he was expressing how influential the Zulu nation was as they were one of the most powerful kingdoms in Africa. In the 1700’s, there was once a cattle farmer that had a vision on how to unite the neighboring chiefdoms and transformed it into a great empire, and his name was Shaka.
