Hilltop Neighborhood House is a private preschool that provides care for children 6 weeks old to 5 years old. Hilltop offers a Kindergarten Readiness program that prepares children for Kindergarten. They prepare children for Kindergarten by provide them the tools to be successful in their later education. Hilltop teaches the children social and listening skills. This goes along with Hilltop’s mission to help children succeed as an individual. This program thrives on the diversity that Hilltop offers. 84% of the children that Hilltop serves are from low income families. Along with serving a large portion of low income families, they also serve a large portion of minorities and single parent homes. Hilltop reaches out to these populations by offering scholarships so Hilltop is affordable to all. Hilltop also accepts the Childcare Development Vouchers (CCDF) which further allows for all populations to attend Hilltop.

This can either be through the scholarships that Hilltop has to offer. The social worker can also be a broker and refer a family to apply for the CCDF program if the social work finds that the family does qualify for this program. The social worker could also refer families to other government support such as TANF, Medicaid or WIC. A social worker could also be someone to help a child with the difficult situation they are in. The social worker can be there to listen to the child talk and express their feelings. I think the social worker’s best part of the work is seeing the successful outcome. Helping a family get the daycare service that they want and need can give a feeling of success to the social worker. It lets the social worker see the positive impact they made in the families’
In the Late nineteenth century the population was growing at a rapid pace. The country had people flooding the biggest cities in the country such as New York City and Chicago. These populations were gaining more and more people every single year and the country has to do something to make places for these people to live. The government would go on to create urban housing programs. These programs were created to make homes for these people to live in. Throughout one’s working life, its highly probable that ethical dilemmas will arise in professional practice in one form or another. Ethical dilemmas bare their heads in many different fashions, including: “…competing ethical principles; empathic failures due to cultural misunderstanding; language gaps; inadequate cultural training to serve a certain population, and so on” (Zoltan, 2016). In the personal experience of this reporter, Claymore Residential Home, a corporately run rehabilitative community for adults with intellectual and cognitive impairment, presents the gravest example of ethical dilemmas. It was a workplace lead by autocrats cloaked in professional titles and facades of altruism. Ethical dilemmas emanated from the top of the hierarchy and trickled throughout the organization.

There are many different career fields you can go into as a social worker: from mental health, drug and alcohol abuse all the way to child welfare. Child welfare is my primary target when I become a social worker. I feel that I will have the biggest impact if I help the kids out that will be creating our future world.
