Gun control is “The statutory regulation of the licensing and use of firearms; an instance or aspect of this (oxforddictionaries).” Americans take advantage of the use of being able to own a firearm. Journalist in Roanoke, Virginia, Sandy Hook Elementary, and Columbine if gun control was stricter these incidences may not have happened. If gun control was enforced these shooters would not have access to guns. Hillary uses pathos through her article to not only make readers understand the emotional effect guns have on families and the nation, but logos to give logical explanation of what we need to do to control incident from happening. Hillary Clinton was all for gun control since her husband was president. Hillary Clinton thinks that “Everyone
who wishes to purchase a gun should have a license, and that every handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry (breitbart).” Since Clintons husband has been in office, she has been supporting gun control. An example of logos would be when Hillary Clinton states that “ laws need to change to protect people (thedailybeast),” When her husband, Bill Clinton, launched a nationwide ad campaign to draw awareness to youth violence, Hillary was greatly involved. It took a great toll on Hillary when she went to meet with the families of the shooting victim, “ the faces of parents who were living through their worst nightmare, dealing with the loss of their own children in such a senseless, disturbing act of violence (thedailybeast).” She did not only state an explain of pathos, but she wants the nation to know how it would feel like if it was anyone of them having to go through the same hardship. Hillary uses logical reasoning when she talks about what has happened in the county, “Well, I am against illegal tunas, and illegal are the cause of so much death and injury in our county (thedailybeast).” She wants to get gun control out of the wrong hands of young people and off the streets. Hillary thinks the best way to do this is “Everyone who wishes to purchase a gun should have a license, and that every handgun sale or transfer should be registered in a national registry (breitbart).” I agree with her if we know who has guns and know they are not in hands of the wrong people.
In his article “Our Blind Spot about Guns,” Nicholas Kristof argues for making guns safer for the people who use them by bringing up the comparison of guns to cars; “Cars don’t kill people. People kill people,” (261). Kristof’s purpose is to address the fact that guns are not as safe as they should be and are the cause of thousands of deaths each year. Although his ideas for increasing gun safety are interesting, there is a shortcoming in the comparisons he used. In order to make a stronger argument, one must use literary devices. In this case, Kristof used ethos, pathos, logos, and additional rhetorical devices.
In his article “Gun debate? What gun debate?” Mark O 'Mara discuses the controversial issue of gun control. O’Mara takes the tragic school shooting in Oregon as an opportunity to voice his opinion on the debate of guns. He clearly states his position and explains that gun violence has increased enormously because of the lack of command by the government and support from the public to speak out against it. O’Mara claims the issue is no longer a debate because it is so evident that guns have become a significant problem in this country and therefore actions must be taken to control and govern gun laws. In his article he attempts to raise awareness to the severity of the issue and tries to persuade his readers to take a stance against gun violence

W. Cooke, the author of “Gun-Control Dishonesty”, spreads his conservative view on the topic by ripping away any hope for a brighter day. On September 5, 1995 Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered a speech to the United Nations 4th World Conference during a Women Plenary Session, located in Beijing, China. Clinton spoke about how women around the world were not treated equally, how women rights should be equal to human rights, and the ghastly abuse and discrimination women faced around the world. The reason for the conference was to strengthen women, families, and societies in order to empower women to taking control of their lives and not be subject to such discrimination. She emphasized how education, health care, jobs, and political rights were not equal between genders and that the world needed to change. Clinton gave a very convincing speech because of her use of rhetorical techniques. The use of pathos, ethos, logos, and anaphora created a powerful, persuasive argument against the way women were treated around the world. Clintons main goal of this speech was to appeal to the audience and convince them that this is unequal treatment is an immense matter and needs to be addressed all over the world.
Aroung the time of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the controversial and widely argued issue of gun control sparked and set fire across America. In the past decade however, it has become one of the hottest topics in the nation. Many American’s feel the need to seek ownership of weapons as a source of protection; While others believe that private ownership of guns will do nothing more but heighten the rate of violence due to people taking matters into his or her own hands. In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control is complex. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the “Land of the Free” possessing a gun is a fundamental right, and may even be a necessity... Anti- gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in an effort to call on the government to take action. It has been argued by the political parties that gun control is a controversial issue because allowing citizens own a gun can result in bad consequences. The debate over gun control in America has constantly been brought up over the years due to gunmen killing large amounts of people in shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, or the shootings of the two reporters in West Virginia, these public shootings are occurring everywhere. Lawmakers and civilians alike are pushing for increased gun control in hopes of preventing the same tragedies. Anyone that has been affected by the shootings has been pushing Congress and state governments to force new sanctions on the government. Over the past three years, Congress has shot down all the laws despite the large amounts of public support.
