Countries and regions on a global scale have been eager to draw highly skilled immigrants because of their proficiency in promoting innovation and boosting economic growth. And there is this constant competition between countries contending to get the best talented prospects to improve their global competitiveness. The development of Silicon Valley is a good example of how attracting the most talented and educated immigrants has led it to be one of the most technologically innovative regions in the world. The highly skilled immigrants Silicon Valley has attracted demonstrates these immigrants as playing the roles of exceedingly skillful and cultivated workers that have migrated in massive groups, pioneering entrepreneurs, and posing as a connection …show more content…
Of the 11,443 companies established in Silicon Valley between 1980 and 1998, 2775 (24%) of those companies were generated by Chinese and Indians. These innovative and entrepreneurial immigrants and their companies produced $16.8 billion in sales as well as creating 58,282 jobs. These immigrant entrepreneurs are not only generating an inflow of new jobs and tax profits. Many of these new immigrant produced companies are also entering larger markets that help generate large profits and investments as well as creating groundbreaking services, products and technologies which further stimulate innovation. In addition, as these immigrant entrepreneurs reach high levels of success and revenue they then become venture capitalists. As venture capitalist these immigrant entrepreneurs often support the younger up and coming immigrants in establishing their own businesses. Farlie Roberts state in, Immigration and Entrepreneurship , “They distribute their knowledge and expertise of launching a business to the next wave of migrating immigrants and familiarize them to distributors, clients, attorneys, and other business partners. These networks of people and companies not only support their own people but also enhance the global competitiveness of the region.” Through the evidence being provided, high skilled immigrant who go on to become entrepreneurs are posing as a strong resource that enables Silicon Valley to help the United States compete in international competition and a way to help alleviate labor
In America, there are many considerable companies created by immigrants during the height of immigration. During the early 1900s, the American Dream was in full swing and patriotism was found amongst most Americans. During this time, Americans had a sense of vivaciousness when talking about America and the economy. With the roaring 20s and significant economic growth in the 1910s, many non-natives flocked to America in search of a better life. However, as time went on and America’s economy started to adjust, the American Dream and patriotism of indigenous Americans also evolved. Bogged down with the aftermath of the Great Depression in the 1930s, second and third generation Americans fell out of love with America. Immigrants kept hope though,
This article focused mainly the emergence of the first people in America: Who they are, where they came from and how they got to America. He discussed three main routes as to how they arrived in America, none of which were without criticisms. In trying to determine whom the first people in America are, Hadingham began with the Clovis points and their creators, the Clovis people, who lived about 12,500 to 13,500 years ago, and tried to trace their origin.
With a controlled and balanced inflow of people, immigration can be an important asset to the American workforce. With this in mind, it’s arrogant to think that the greatest minds of the world were born with U.S. citizenship, and even more so to believe that the induction of those people into the proper positions would not boost America’s economy. However, the current state of the country
In today’s current events, the Immigration Policy has been under debate. The U.S. is attempting to find “top foreign talent” while still eliminated illegal immigrants and securing U.S. borders. ...

United States is a country that was developed and nourished due to the immigrants from all over the world. U.S. is a country of immigrants and a place where every individual, from anywhere, can pursue his/her American Dream. Looking back at the history, one will know how much immigrants have contributed to this country. For example, look at the history of Industrial revolution and Gold Rush, one will see the changes and effects of the arrival of the immigrants. For a very long time, immigrants were segregated in United States, but now immigrants are considered equal in every manner. Immigration is the basis of the foundation that United States is built upon and due to this foundation, United States has emerged as a global power and one of the strongest and wealthiest countries in the world. Immigrants play a large role in the development and history of the United States, but people, in today’s society, take immigrants as a danger to the development and citizens of the U.S. One of the main factors that immigrants are mostly related to is the economy. Furthermore, Economy plays a huge role in the U.S. and people think Immigrants are weakening U.S. economy. In reality, Immigrants benefit the society as a whole and also strengthen our economy. Immigrants help the economy because they increase tax revenue, create jobs, and provide new talent to our country.
Many of the early immigrants that desired to come to the United States possessed skills that helped shape our great nation. When the first wave of immigrants to the United States came via Ellis Island, they were primarily from Europe and came with skills that helped build America. Some were tradesman, seamstress my architects, etc. Steve Malanga a Senior Editor for City Journal (New York) and accomplished writer noted that “Though fleeing persecution or economic stagnation in their homelands, that era's immigrants brought important skills that fit easily into the American economy and helped supercharge the work force” (1). Today’s massive waves of illega...
Since the creation of the United States of America, immigrants from all backgrounds have sought refuge, a home and a life in this country of prosperity and opportunity. The opportunity of freedom to exercise natural rights is a large pull factor that causes many people to come to America. Others come because it is a country where one can prosper. Prosperity of people in a country, however, is a more challenging phenomenon to explain than opportunity. Immigrants seek economic, social and educational as well as cultural prosperity. The question of how to gain such prosperity is a difficult one to answer. Some immigrants come to America, cast off their past identity and attempt to find a new, less foreign one. By assimilating to American culture with this new identity, they start a long and treacherous journey to seek prosperity in a land vastly different from the one they once called home. Many will gain educational, economic and social prosperity, but never gain cultural prosperity. Assimilating to American culture so hastily, some immigrants are never able to explore and keep up with their cultural backgrounds. Their families grow up and became Americans, never cognizant of their given up ethnic identities. Those immigrants, however, who are able to gain cultural prosperity through the help of other immigrants of their respective background, become integrated into American society while keeping their ethnic identity. This is the sort of opportunity that the United States of America has provided new arrivals since its founding. Although many immigrants become overwhelmed with American culture and assimilate into it, those who contribute to a working ethnic society are able to dela...
ii. Steven Gold observation/ Statistics: Many immigrants are highly educated, and they work in the science and technology fields that are highly in demand in the United States. He also states that 40 percent of PHD scientists working in America are foreign born. he also asserts that immigrants possess a linguistic, a cultural, and a technical skill that allows Americans companies to sell their services and goods in other countries so easily.

Immigration is one of the most important factors that have boosted the American economy since the Gold Rush. Not only foreigners have contributed to the economy, but they have brought different traditions and skills that have made the United States one of the most powerful countries in the world. “Bring on More Immigrant Entrepreneurs” by Shayan Zadeh argues how foreigners struggle in the U.S by creating their own businesses. The author makes a strong emphasis on how foreigners are important to the economy, but they are discriminated and not accepted as entrepreneurs because they are not citizens of the United States. Furthermore, the author states that Americans are losing people that could contribute to the labor force, but instead, foreigners
Without employment opportunities that can lead to good paying jobs and ones that could potentially offer advancement being readily available to immigrants, this prevents them from earning a salary that will compensate better than if one were working for one’s self. (Yoon, 1997) The number of immigrants and self-employment has increased .6% from 1984-2015. (Advocacy) In addition to the obstacles listed, the study showed another reason was due to the aging population among business owners.
It is 1am on a summer Saturday night, the wind is gently blowing through your hair and your favorite song is playing on the radio. The stress of your daily, white-collar routine is left behind for just one night – a single evening out with your friends to catch up on the chaos of your lives. You cannot help but enjoy this rare crack in your hectic, nine-to-five schedule; a fleeting moment when everything feels right and you feel free. In the distance, you notice flashing lights. Thinking little of what they could mean, you continue your journey. Suddenly, you come face-to-face with one of the most despised enemies of urban life: traffic. As you slow to a grinding halt, you cannot help but feel irritation, anger and helplessness. It is ruined. Your one night is completely ruined. As you take your place in the endless parking lot that was once a four-lane highway, you realize that the source stoppage is a massive construction project. You look and hear them pound at the pavement with their jackhammers. Trying to control your frustration, you take a deep breath, exhale, and turn your head away. Again, you feel the victim of this deepening social crisis: the shortage of skilled workers.
In the United States, immigrants have established more companies than native population and entrepreneurship has become for many people a natural part of the integration process. (Waldinger, Aldrich & Ward, 2006). Recent studies find out that immigrant entrepreneurship in the United States result in innovation and job creation in the market (Anderson & Platzer, 2006; Fairlie, 2008; Wadhwa et al., 2008). Great technological companies such as Google, Yahoo, Sun Microsystems, Intel and eBay were founded by some of the most innovative immigrant entrepreneurs in the U.S. (Wall Street, 2006). According to Wall Street (2006: A.12) regarding the contribution of immigrant entrepreneurs into U.S. economy, presents Anderson and Platzer’s report
