High Tax Rates, one of the main criticisms of Canadian taxes is the high tax rates, especially for higher-income individuals. The progressive tax system means that as your income increases, so does the percentage of tax you pay. Some argue that this can feel like a big problem, as a massive portion of their earnings goes towards taxes. The Canadian tax system is known for its complexity. Filing taxes can be a long and time-consuming process, especially for people who haven’t learned about taxes and tax laws and regulations. Having to go through various deductions, credits, and forms can be overwhelming or tiring, leading to potential errors and the need for professional help. Taxation on Goods and Services. Another problem is the taxation of goods and services. The …show more content…
They believe that certain groups, such as small business owners and middle-income earners, have a disproportionate share of the tax problem compared to rich people or companies. This can lead to feelings of inequality and resentment. Taxes that they hide from you, Critics also point out hidden taxes as a concern. These are taxes not explicitly mentioned but embedded in the prices of goods and services. Examples include excise taxes on alcohol, tobacco, and gasoline. Some argue that these hidden taxes can be regressive, impacting poorer people significantly. Tax Avoidance and Evasion (ahh, my favorite thing in the world). Another issue that arises is tax avoidance and evasion. Some people and corporations may find ways to minimize their tax obligations through legal loopholes or even illegal means. This can lead to a loss of tax revenue for the government, perhaps, affecting the funding of public services. Or something like that. Economic activity reflects a balance between what people, businesses, and governments want to buy and what they want to sell. In the short run, demand factors get very
First, the budget deficit. It’s basically the idea that the government spending is greater that its earning. They are two ways to manage this deficit, either to cut spending (Medicare, Medicaid and social security etc.) or increase taxes. However, each solution has its disadvantages. If the government increased taxes, people will spend less money and if they cut spending, people will complain about it arguing that this may hurt the nation.
Canada has been shaped by the historical influences of World War 1, The Roaring 20’s & Dirty 30’s and World Was 2; setting the basis for the society for which we live in today. World Was 1 had a big impact on Canada because it started the process of giving woman rights and showing people that they can do the same jobs men can do. The Roaring 20’s & Dirty 30’s has a big effect on the country because people went from having a lot of luxuries in the 20’s, To having no luxuries in the 30’s. When World War 2 came it gave people jobs and money so they could buy back everything they lost in the depression.
Canada is a society built on the promise of democracy; democracy being defined as “government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.” In order to operate at full potential, the people of Canada must voice their opinions and participate fully in the political system. This is why it’s shocking to see that people are becoming less engaged in politics and the voter turnout has steadily been declining over the last 20 years. This lack of participation by Canadians is creating a government that is influenced by fewer people, which is detrimental to the democratic system Canada is built on.
There are Canadian citizens who thought that the Canadian government we have is perfect, citizens who believed that every aspect of the government was truly democratic, and citizens who believe that government could do no wrong. Truly this group of believers has been living a lie. In our Canadian system of government, large aspects within are far from democratic and need to be changed. Liberal-minded people will cry out for a change in order for government to serve the people better, and on the other hand the more conservative thinkers will argue that no change is needed because our government is efficient and considerate. However, our voting system, our Senate, and the power vested to the Prime Minister are far from democratic, do not meet the actual needs of the people and definitely need to be addressed.
In Canada’s mixed economy we have many advantages with only a few disadvantages. One advantage is that it encourages less income equality, some think this is bad because the wealthier will be taxed more money except most think it is a very reasonable thing because they can afford the tax while the people where money is more scarce they wouldn’t be able to afford the big taxes that the wealthy can. Another big advantage for Canada’s mixed economy is that there is lots of employment available which leads to the unemployment rate to go way down which increases quality of life. One huge disadvantage is that having a mixed economy can lead to high taxes because the
...ghts and Freedoms’ allow their citizens to possess fundamental freedoms, democratic rights, mobility rights, legal rights, and equality rights. Fundamental freedoms allow residents to express who they are and to develop as human beings. Democratic rights allow individuals to voice their opinions to the government and mobility rights allow society to freely immigrate and emigrate to and from Canada. Legal rights protect the people of the nation by having laws that keep them safe along with the equality rights, which protect citizenry from discrimination allowing them to life without fear of inequality. Thus, supplying them with positive and negative liberties that make Canada such a successful political community compared to the various nations that lack these rights and freedoms and cause a state of societal issues to be placed on the political community as a result.
Poverty is a serious issue in Canada needs to be addressed promptly. Poverty is not simply about the lack of money an individual has; it is much more than that. The World Bank Organization defines poverty by stating that, “Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time”. In Canada, 14.9 percent of Canada’s population has low income as Statistics Canada reports, which is roughly about two million of Canadians in poverty or on the verge of poverty. In addition, according to an UNICEF survey, 13.3 percent of Canadian children live in poverty. If the government had started to provide efficient support to help decrease the rates of poverty, this would not have been such a significant issue in Canada. Even though the issue of poverty has always been affecting countries regardless of the efforts being made to fight against it, the government of Canada still needs to take charge and try to bring the percentage of poverty down to ensure that Canada is a suitable place to live. Therefore, due to the lack of support and social assistance from the government, poverty has drastically increased in Canada.

Canada as a country has a lot going for it. A high GNP, and high per capita income in international terms.... ... middle of paper ... ... With all the focus being on becoming a sovereign nation, the citizens are suffering.
The federal level ensures public safety for all Canadian citizens during times of terrorism and natural disasters, reassuring individuals that their safety is a top priority. The provincial government provides an organized foundation for the education systems as they are able to assist and encourage individuals who are of age to attend school. At the same time, they ensure the health care system is being funded appropriately and is sustaining all necessary health related needs for citizens. Finally, the municipal government guarantees that waste management is taken into account and is being done so in a societal and environmentally cautions manor. The municipal level as well is sufficient when it comes to water regulation and treating and distributing water to households amongst a city. Overall, the Canadian government not only meets, but exceeds my expectations when putting into account the most important issues I believe they are
Canadian health care system is well developed, highly efficient, and even with drawbacks it provides Canadian resident the best health care they deserve.
Since the day Canada was created the standards of living have been constantly changing. There have been ups and downs in Canadian Standard of Living, but in my opinion, the system we have today is nearly perfect. Although I believe that no one will ever create a perfect system, mainly because of the differences in opinions. Not a single country in the world has the standard of living that in my opinions is ideal. We can look at other countries such as: Russia, Holland, or China. Although these countries have better standards of living then Canadians in some areas like: education, clothing, health system, etc. Each of them has disadvantages like: Russia has poor economy, Holland has high taxes, and China is overpopulated. I believe that current Canadian Standard of living creates a line higher then medium in the World Standard of Living.
Canada is a great place to live, because it is very diverse. country. The sand is a sand. It is multicultural, it’s considered a Melting Pot. Many people from many nations come together to make this country special and unique to us.
Canada is facing a shifting global landscape with an increasing level of state capitalism and state-owned enterprises in strategic sectors. In the Canadian context, policy makers will require better benchmarks to clearly allocate limited public resources more effectively. Unlike in the United states, individuals and government in Canada both make decisions, and influence economic decision making. More social services are being provided but at the cost of a higher taxes, given that the state has more funds. According to an article in National Post, the split in Canada is 75% private and 25% public but recently Harper has reduced taxes to create a general conditions favourable to businesses pursuing a laissez faire approach leaving the economy becalmed.
Reflection on Social Determinants of Health Trinelle Brown University of Ontario Institute of Technology 100618168 HLSC1811U Social Determinants of Health - Section 004 March 31st, 2017 When I was first introduced to this course, I was expecting a recap on everything I learned in high school. I assumed that this course would view the aspect of health through a medical perspective (physical and mental) and completely ignored the actual name of the course. By focusing more on the name ‘social determinants,’ it had me thinking that there were social causes that led people to become unhealthy. I honestly did not think it was important how health issues were socially developed.
