High School Volleyball Team

The biggest risk that I have taken was when I was a freshman at Wylie East High School. I have played volleyball since I could walk so high school volleyball tryouts did not intimidate me. When I entered high school volleyball tryouts, I did not expect to make a massive decision. After a preseason on junior varsity, the head varsity coach gave me the option to either stay on JV or move up and play on varsity. I had to choose whether I wanted to keep my starting position on JV or move up with the intimidating seniors on the varsity team. This question lingered in my head and I could not think of what would be best for me and the team. After much thought, I decided to take a risk and move up to varsity.
This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I grew so much not only as a volleyball player, but a person too. This experience allowed me to work with many different types of personalities and people. I also had to start at the bottom and prove that I belonged on the team. The insane amount of stress of being the baby on the team taught me how to handle pressure and tough situations. This greatly helps in many situations today, including in my business education. I feel that this relates to my volleyball risk in a unique way. I felt that if I stayed on JV then I may not be substantial enough to substitute into the varsity games. If I stayed on JV no one would be able to substitute with me and I would have played the entire game.
