Heros Amongst our Literature The word hero can mean many different things to many different people. In my research, I have discovered all the different kinds of hero’s people think of when ever the word is spoken. When I think of the word hero I simply think of a nice, caring, loving person. A person who gives and helps, not for themselves but for the people who need it. Firefighters and policemen are good examples of my kind of hero. They are the ones that you call in your time of need. Although I think of that one particular type of hero, I have learned that there are in fact different types of hero’s, whether it’s a literary character, a fantasy character, or a real-life person.

(Hero’s Journey, 2017) Since the world has changed significantly over the years that means that a hero is going to evolve as well. “The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of narrative identified by the American scholar Joseph Campbell that appears in drama, storytelling, myth, religious ritual, and psychological development. The move toward anti-heroes developed in the 20th and 21st centuries, with the focus on leading protagonists who lack certain heroic qualities, such as idealism, courage and generosity. An example of an anti-hero of the modern writing era is Deadpool the snarky Marvel graphic novel character. (The development of the epic hero in the 21st century., 2013)
Conclusion
In conclusion, I have discussed above the various roles heroes played in history. We started in ancient times with Aristotle and ended in modern times with the anti-hero’s Deadpool written by Marvel author Stan Lee. The following topics “Aristotle and the elements of tragedy”, “The hero’s Journey”, and “The rise of the 21st century anti-hero” were covered in detail above. This research paper was very helpful with teaching me more about the role heroes played in literature in the past and present.
