When someone says hero, what's the first thing you think, a man or a woman in a cape pushing against all odds to save people and the people they love. When you hear villain, you might think of your favorite comic or movie with the guy or girl that’s absolutely deranged and evil. In real life the heroes and the villains are not so easy to spot they are often hidden and sometimes they aren't even people at all but circumstances people are put in. You find heroes and villains in all walks and in all mediums. Protagonist and antagonist are in literature and they exist in just about every story and everyday life if you look hard enough.

In Desiree's baby, the hero and villains are not so easy to spot. In that story A woman and man fall madly in love and seem to have a happily ever after, until Desiree has her baby and he is mixed. Armand throws her out making her believe it was her fault while knowing good and well it was his. In that short telling you may believe that it's obvious that Armand is the villain how could he blame the love of his life, but back in the times of slavery as a black man what would you do? Would you risk your life your son and wife to slavery? I cannot say for certain what I would have done but I know that I cannot blame him for his actions, even though his actions ended killing his wife and son but he now has to live with the fact his love is gone and so is his son. we as a society as a people are the heroes and we are the villains. Another example is the people in the Donor party, are they evil for making the choices they did or was just simply the situation that they were put in that made them make those tough choices. I fee Armand falls into that category, I do not believe he himself to be a villain but more that society at the time made him villainous due to social norms.
