Helen grew up with her parents' passive parenting style because her parents have a pity for her. Helen can do whatever she wants because her parents do not want to deal with her tantrum, and they did not know how to explain to her what is right or wrong. Anne Sullivan was born April,14 1866 in Massachusetts. Her parents were Thomas and Alice Sullivan. Also, she had a little brother JImmie. Helen Keller was a true American hero, in my eyes. She was born June, 27 1880 in Tuscumbia Alabama. Helens father was in the confederate army, and so was her grandfather on her mother’s side. Coincidentally one of Helen's ancestors was the first to teach to the deaf in Zurich; Helen did refer back to this in one of her autobiography. Helen was born able to see and hear, but by 19 months she became very ill. This disease was described by doctors as an acute congestion of her stomach and brain. Some doctors guessed that this might be Scarlett fever or meningitis, but never completely knew. The mother relatives in sharing the life and the begetting of children, bestowing the values and education upon their sons to turn them into citizens that would run home with integrity (208). Even though the mother wasn't as highly thought of as the father, they did all the necessary tasks to run the house and care for their children. Since many men fought in the military, the mother had to take on full responsibility when it came to household duties. Keeping the house clean, providing food, and caring for their children were just a few tasks they partook in (208). This was mostly done by slaves for the upper class woman, but the lower class were responsible for everything.
It was a mutual understanding that women would very rarely ask another woman for help, mostly because they all knew what it was like in this economy, it was a struggle for all these women, so it was much easier to ask men for help. However, housing was far from the only issue that women faced at this time. The lack of jobs and money naturally led to starvation, primal and hopeless starvation. Some women live off of one cracker box a week and occasionally a loaf of stale bread. Women at this time were sickly, frail, and dangerously skinny.

Helen Keller won many awards and had many accomplishments in her lifetime, even though she had the disability of being blind and deaf. Helen Keller achieved more in a day than the average American could achieve in a lifetime. There were many movies made about Keller, and she wrote fourteen books. She was a widespread lecturer, and a member of the Socialist Party, a leading figure in the Suffragist movement, a member of the American Foundation for the Blind, and a member of the the right of industrial workers to have unions. Keller also fundraised for various associations throughout her life. Helen Keller’s disabilities did not get in her way as she won many awards and she also had many accomplishments in her lifetime.
She believes that a child’s feeling and personal goals is locked away, and instead is replaced with their parent’s expectations and desires. The child soon begins to develop narcissistic traits, in which the parent should allow the child to express feelings such as jealously and anger. In the novel Miller (1996) states “he develops something the mother needs…but it nevertheless may prevent him, throughout his life, from being himself” (p. 34). Allowing children to experience feeling such as anger and jealously provides an understanding on the child is not always perfect. However narcissistic disturbance occurs when a parent projects their own narcissistic desires onto their child, unfortunately suppressing their desires and acquiring their parents. Incidentally several students from Princeton University conducted a research in order demonstrate how narcissism is cultivated by the parents’ overvaluation and parental warmth. Eddie Mrummelman and colleagues (2014) stated, “When parents overvalue their child, they see their child as “God’s gift to man”…children might internalize the belief that they are special individuals who are entitled to privileges” (p 2).
