Women have written books, created art, and became political and religious figures. An example would be Hildegard and Volmar, a German woman who wrote treaties on medicine, invented an alternative alphabet, and was a gifted composer. Looking at the photo of Heldegard she had a flame on top of her head. It is said with that flame God could talk to her. Heldegard is a woman that people should look up to. She was very talented and smart, whether it was through science or composing music.
In the Book of Homilies the Nun Guda inserted a drawing in the letter D, which is one of the first self-portraits by women in western Europe. This drawing really shows how modest she is with the simple coloring techniques.
