For example, Suzy was looking forward to helping the kids in the hospital, but Suzy became judgmental and laughed at them Leah became judgmental to Suzy when she saw her giving food to the kids and laughing at them. Initially, the theme “Being able to accept someone different in the true meaning of friendship “ applies to the short story “Heartache” because in the middle of the story Iona couldn’t find anyone to talk to and he wasn’t accepted due to the fact he was poor.
Iona couldn’t find anyone to talk to. He was very depressed and found out the horse was the one to listen to him and he was finally able to share his feelings. As shown in “Heartache” It is possible to talk to someone about him and draw his picture”. Pg. 509.Iona got very sad over his son dying. He tries to find comfort by talking to people. help. Additionally, the theme is also evident in Suzy and Leah because the protagonist is judged for being new. In the story, Suzy was judging Leah. Leah came to America and was sent to a camp. Suzy got mad at her for being better at language arts and she didn’t understand Leah and what has happened to her. As shown in ”Suzy and Leah” She doesn’t know the words to any of the top songs and she’s so stuck up and she only talks in class to answer a question, the other refuge’s aren’t like that at all”. This evidence proves the theme because Suzy is judging Leah for being from another country and not bring able to do what regular Americans do. The story Leah and Suzy show how a girl from another country is being judged just as not being an American Lastly, the protagonists from both short stories, Iona and Leah share similar and different characteristics that relate to the theme. A characteristic that is similar between Iona and Leah is loneliness. In “Heartache” Iona is felt that he is lonely because he doesn’t have his son and no one would listen to him. He said himself that he wished that they took him instead of his son. As shown in “Heartache”, it will soon be a week since his son died, and he still hasn’t talked to anyone about it properly, he should speak with good sense, in measured tones…. He must tell someone his son got sick, how he suffered what he said before death,” This characteristic relates to the theme because Iona feels very lonely having no one to turn to and no one to rely on. Leah family dies, moving to America didn’t make her feel safe. Finally, a characteristic that is different between Iona and Leah is being scared. The characteristic that is different is that Leah is scared and Iona is not. Leah felt so scared about where she was kept. She got so scared she didn’t tell anyone that she was sick. As shown in “Suzy and Leah” I was so frightened about being sick”. This relates to the theme of how Leah is different. Leah was so scared to be sick because in Germany she would have been killed for being sick As a result “Heartache” by Anton Chekov and “Suzy and Leah” by Jane Yolen the theme they share is “Being able to accept someone different in the true meaning of friendship.
I am breaking the story ‘Heartache” to find a common theme. The story heartache shows how Iona is lonely. This helps us find the theme. Breaking the story Suzy and Leah also help find the common them. Breaking the story also helps with find textual evidence. Breaking the story also helps with finding characteristics. Even this quote explains that true friendship is when an individual stands for another individual. In the novel Of Mice and Men, author John Steinbeck examine the idea of friendship between two migrant ranch worker even when there was difficulties. Through the character of Slim and George, author Steinbeck illustrates friendship and reveals that friendships stand up for each other even when is difficult time.

Each short story, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” and “The Sniper,” show many different themes throughout. From insanity, to happiness, all the way to selfishness, each story also hides terrible secrets.
Friendships can change the outcome of a novel. Depending on who the main character sides with and who that character makes friends with can change if the character overcomes their obstacles or not. Friendship and love is when people caring and helpful to each other. Also its when both help each other without their own intentions. In Peak by Roland Smith, Peak views love and friendship as being helpful and caring, but when he is forced to go with his father, and finds out people who are his supposedly his friends are only helping him for their own special intention, he has to rely on loyalty and trust to find the people that actually care and love him.
Theme is defined as the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person’s thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic. Throughout literary history, authors have been using theme to bring a story together and make a point. In order to make a story have a resounding feeling in readers, authors use themes to leave an underlying message which are usually lessons and morals that should be widely taught, such as in children’s books or in fables. In all three stories, “A Rose for Emily”, “Hills like White Elephants”, and “Harrison Bergeron” the author’s use a mutual theme of death and further show how death brings change to each of the main character’s lives in different
Have you ever felt the urge to know how it feels to be insane. Have you wonder how it would feel to be rid of something that haunted you for eight days. Have you felt the thrill of getting rid of it by ending it. I might be a little crazy but, I strongly believe that tell tale heart is appropriate for the 8th grade standard. “What is the Tell Tale Heart?”, you my ask. Tell Tale Heart is a horror genre story that is about a man who suffers from a mental disease, and he lives with a old man that never harmed him or wronged him. What made him kill him was because of the old man’s eye. “It was like a vulture’s eye” (pg.89) so he stalked him in his sleep every night for seven days just to see the old man’s eye open. His verge to insanity he was not stable. He was already ill, but instead of seeking for help he states that it sharpened his senses. He stated that he was trustworthy (no end mark; reread this run-on
In life, friendship is something that everybody needs. It allows people to function better and be more successful. Some people think that all friendships are the same and do not differ from the next. However, I believe that each friendship has its own quality that makes it different from all of the other friendships while still retaining all of the characteristics that make the relationship a friendship. Today, this essay will highlight the qualities that are the same in the friendship of Maurice and Laura from An Invisible Thread and the friendship of Lennie and George from Of Mice and Men while also identifying the differences between them as well as illustrating the very attributes that define a friendship.

From a young age, most people have gone through many relationships with other people who were not their family. Thus, we often acknowledge these relationships as friendships. But the word friend is too broad, so people categorize their friends into several types. In her book “Necessary Losses: The Lovers, Illusions, Dependencies and Impossible Expectations That All of Us Have to Give Up in Order to Grow”, Judith Viorst divided friendships into six types. Those are convenience friends, special interest friends, historical friends, crossroad friends, cross-generational friends and close friends.

When people hear about broken heart, they typically think that you have broken up with a boyfriend/girlfriend, and believe that the phrase “broken heart” is just that, a phrase. “Now suppose you had a little colt, and you were your own mother to that little colt… And all of the sudden that same little colt went and died… You’d be sorry, wouldn’t you?” When dealing with death, an individual is encompassed with all kinds of feelings and emotions. Depression, denial, and guilt are all the components of mourning through death. This quote, relates to the thought that everything one experiences is associated with their environment. Iona and the mare experience two different environments. For Iona, it’s adjusting to a life without his son. The little mare lives a life away from the farms in a gloomy city. Iona places the little mare in a similar scenario he’s in, as if she can respond. Although she can’t, the horse’s compassion is visible once again. “The little mare munches, listens, and breathers on her master’s hands.” The healing power of the mare was the key to easing Iona’s suffering. When Iona couldn’t find a sense of closure through the communication with human beings he finally opens his eyes to realize the one listener he had, was his little white mare. He pours his sorrows out to her and not only did she show compassion by hearing his every word, she physically comforts him. The little breath on his hand represents the transfer of warmth from the mare to Iona on a cold winter day. Even though she’s restricted to what she can do, at the end
