Before experiencing the Healthcheck Clinic, I was apprehensive about being a participant. This was due to my lack of confidence in implementing the health exams, such as with testing blood pressure. During the training day, I was not assured in my determined values for blood pressure, even though I practiced twice. This inability to ascertain the values continued in the Healthcheck Recap, as well. However, I was able to improve my skills in the Human Patient Simulation activity. During the activity, I was able to get blood pressures that were close to the values entered beforehand for the patient. This instilled in me more self-assurance before attending the clinic. Additionally, before going to the clinic, I thought that its program reflected the compassionate care that healthcare professionals should uphold. This was due to the services that we learned and how each step had a component of consideration. For instance, each exam and service started with the question, “Would you like this to be done?” This reflected care towards a patient’s opinion. I did the steps that I was taught to do, and the patients that I had were very open to having the exams. The welcoming that my patients gave me enabled me to become more confident in my skills, and I was then able to give them the quality care they deserved. For instance, there was a moment where I could not find their pulse on my own. They then continued to joke about how they are a “vampire.” The humor that they showed me allowed me to calm down, and I was able to find their pulse. I believe that they were trying to dissipate my nervousness from not being able to perform the task. Therefore, I still believe that the experience was humbling and I am glad that I was able to provide even a little bit of care to such kind
When we see patients, we must remember that we are not simply treating a disease. We are caring for people with lives, hobbies, jobs, families, and friends, who are likely in a very vulnerable position. We must ensure that we use the status of physicians to benefit patients first and foremost, and do what we promised to when we entered the profession: provide care and improve quality of life, and hopefully leave the world a little better than it was
I will be using the What? Model of Structured reflection suggested by Driscoll (2000), a recognised framework for reflection to demonstrate my ability to reflect on a clinical skill with the professional value of privacy and dignity.
“The Doctor” presented interesting and emotional concepts accurately representing the philosophies and behaviors of many medical professionals. Perhaps its viewing would be beneficial by members of our medical community, and provide a framework to the personalization of patient care.

Coming into contact with, speaking to, and intimately understanding these incredible individuals can dramatically alter one’s perspective and ensure treatment with self respect and dignity. I strongly believe in this notion of early involvement. ...the opportunity to act as a triage nurse taking weights and blood pressures of our 1600 patients and seeing first-hand how hard it must be to receive quality medical care in their country. Many walked for hours and then stood waiting to be seen in the rain. To them, medical care is more a privilege than a right. This also seems to be true in the United States where the uninsured are turned away from many hospitals to ones, which often lack the resources for expensive operations. This experience has inspired me to serve the underserved.
Certainly, I began with the goal getting of his vital sign and giving him a bed bath. Fortunately I had practice how to take a vital sign and giving a bed bath before my first clinical at the university skill lab and I had developed this confidence before my clinical tour. That day will be mastering the skill which I had just learned in manikins, and applying in real human with huge safety precaution. In between morning my instructor was giving me a brief before I getting to the patients room. From her experience she knew what kind of challenges and a patient behavior can be I face. As I proceeded to my own patient, I hit a roadblock that would give me a flat tire for the rest of the shift.
This experience differed from the medical experience I had before, as now I was not just observing but also actually interacting with the patient. My previous experience working in a rehabilitation center made me more ready for what to expect when interacting with elderly patients. I believe that I handled the experience very well; there is nothing I think I would do differently. With more exposure to this type of situation I am sure that I will become more adept in my skills and techniques.
Consequently, I have always believed that our patients look forward to seeing us, knowing that we are there physically and emotionally, not only during the struggle but also afterward.
