Healthcare is an organization of professionals, that work together, to care for individuals in need. Policy changes on how care is provided, along with procedures and many other factors, which require strategic planning. This is a process, which is planned out based on the managers style. Each manager has their own style of leadership skills, that will determine how the planning process takes place, which will also determine how the implementation of the changes take place. She went from managing three hospitals to managing four hospitals, taking on more tasks then planned. She had initially had an open-door policy, which resulted in many individuals dropping by, to discuss issues or just talking. Due to the open-door policy, this placed her behind in other tasks, such as returning phone calls and emails. Jane needed to prioritize her tasks, of a manager to begin with, which would help keeping her on task. Another issue that I see in this scenario was that, Jane was picking up shifts on top of her daily work, which resulted in overworking. In order to implement strategies effectively the case manager must use key techniques to resolve the issues. Fist; perform variance analysis, which involves taking the issues and breaking it down into smaller ones to find the root problem and cause. Second, Focusing on desired outcomes, which involves identifying data collected, and how the issue can be solved, and identifying limitations. Third, brainstorm alternative strategies or approaches to ensure to choose the best strategy, with optimal result of patient care. Fourth, finding the next best intervention, and finally evaluation of all outcomes. Good communication skills are also important to the role of the case manager. Using techniques such as empowerment, which allows the patients to speak for themselves, and have the time to complete all their thoughts is encouraging to the patient. Establishing trust allows a therapeutic relationship to occur, which essentially facilitates a key in determining the patient’s plan of care. Maintaining respect, and refraining from judgmental body language is important to ensure the patient is comfortable with you.
