Today, an Information System (IS) within a career consists of almost any technological job which involves computers, servers, database systems and lastly people. Health Informatics (HI) which consists of IS, information technology, medical knowledge and health care administration, is the wave of the future. It allows for medical information to be inputed into a technological information system. Those that pursue this career are interested in computer systems and healthcare; health informatics is a median for both. You must understand what exactly Information System is and how it is incorporated into Health Informatics. The CDC believes in the promotion of health.They believe all countries should have sufficient information systems and are currently aiding in this process. Those countries that already have their own information systems; the CDC is looking for a way to improve their current system. These information systems are important due to the fact that they analyze, produce, and circulate vital information on the status of health, the performance of health systems and health agents. Since data is an essential part of health information systems, the CDC advocates utilizing that data to scientifically evaluate and assess these systems. They also want other health information systems to meet global standards so they promote the protection of data and the enabling of sharing health information through a protected network. The CDC has not only administered paper-based systems but computerized ones as well. The CDC deals with global issues and so their informations systems and databases contain a plethora of information; because of this there information systems are broken up into smaller components. There are geographic information systems, immunization information systems, health information systems and public health information systems. The technology use today greatly surpasses the use of technology 10 years ago. The healthcare industry has begun relying on information technology and systems known as e-health to deliver premium healthcare. In the next 10 years the world of healthcare as we know could vastly change. As a Health Informatician the duties that we are responsible for now will change. Today telehealth allows medical information and studies to be shared over a protected network. Metropolitan hospitals are able to share information with hospitals located in rural areas. Telehealth was normally used in critical cases. Now telehealth has been conformed to patient wellness and preventive care. For example ten years from now, a patient that lives in a rustic geographical location who has high blood pressure can be monitored by a physician without ever having to leave their home. As an HI, your duties would be to make sure that the device has been implemented correctly on the patients side and the information received is over a secure network. HI’s in the future may have even more access to patient information and may be the liaison to forward the data from these technological devices to the appropriate office or physician.
