Social Determinants of health case study
Essential to everyday life is the significant condition of our health. Our health can be affected by a number of elements, including our nutrition. In addition, health can also be affected by social determinants such as transportation, social economic status, early life, work, social support, food security and education. (Wilkinson, R.; Marmot, M. 2003) Case studies would be analysed and compare how the social determinants of health have been involved in the manifestation of the health complications. Also how these social determinants have affected the ability of the person access services and manage the health problems
The first case study is Margaret. She is 80 years old. She lives in Metropolitan. …show more content…

Sometimes she needs an interpreter when she is talking to the specialist or the nurse. The interpreter is often her son.
She doesn’t know what health services could improve in to help her manage her health better. She would like it if they explain things to her better. She also talk about how her old G.P. who moved overseas, he would explain to her everything and scheduled for her regular body checks. The G.P. now doesn’t really care and is lazy.
Social economic status, education, early life and nutrition are involved with the manifestation of Margaret 's health problems. When she was young she had a lower social economic status, therefore she had a lack of education about these health problems. She did not know which foods to not eat too much. Food security when she was younger was also a problem sometimes she starved. Also not knowing how important it is to exercise. As she lived in a different country for most of her life political influences is also a social determinant that could have affected her health status. Social factors like personal, family, community, and national levels strongly affect the health of adolescents.(Viner, R,M. and etc… 2012 ) If health isn’t looked after during the younger ages, there would be many health complications when older. Chronic disease such as coronary heart disease could be avoided by having a healthy diet and exercising, if Margaret was educated about it when younger she may have avoided
