“We’ll be arriving in Hawaii in about one hour.”
At least what’s what the pilot said. It was a 11:37 in the morning when my brother Zack and I were taking a trip down to Hawaii to see our family. On the first week of summer vacation him and I fly down there for about two or three weeks. But this summer everything went wrong.
We got up at 5:30 in the morning to make sure we caught our flight. We had already packed our bags the night before, at least I did. When when I arrive at his house, I knocked on the door, waited there for five seconds, and of course, there he is with only half of his stuff packed and with one shoe on.
“What are you doing? We need to get going I told you to pack your bags yesterday.”
“I know but I forgot to.

When I was diving down into the water right above where the plane had crashed there had seemed to be shark that was circling around the sunken plane. But I still dove down there because I knew it was for Zack’s and I’s survival. When I was diving down thee all I could think about was that shark, but I had to keep my mind on finding a bucket and Zack’s rifle. As I was scavenging through the pilot’s space I had come across a bucket that must have had some type of drink in it, maybe they were using it as a cooler. Making my way to the back of the plane there was a door that had all the bags in it, but of course it was locked. I started to panic a little, what if we can’t get any food, what will Zack say to me, then I remembered the bucket that I had found in the pilot's room. So I took the bucket and start to hit it on the door. Well let's just say it didn't go that well because everything under water in much slower so I had to find something that was sharp. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a hatchet in a case next to the fire extinguisher so I swam as fast as I could to the case remembering to take as little breathes as possible. Once I got the hatchet I put it up against the lock and pushed as hard as i could and surely enough the lock
When I stepped out of the hot, airless plane into the bright, dazzling sunlight beaming down across the burning concreate, I felt excited and nervous. Holding my beach bag in my hand and slipping my Ray Ban sunglasses on with my other, I flip-flopped down the airspace. Overhead I heard the screams of gulls and the chatter of the small fluffy birds. I suddenly realized I had arrived to Hawaii. This trip was such an unforgettable vacation for me because I got to witness the beauty of nature that Hawaii has to offer.
The plane was losing altitude, the ocean blue as can be, and Louis Zamperini (a.k.a. Louie) hugged his body waiting as the plane sank. In WWII many planes went missing, but Louie thought he would never be one of them. The water hit him like a train, then crept in closer. Louie was stuck in the gun mount. According to Louie he went unconscious, and when he awoke he was free. Gasping for air, he swam up from the depths of the water chamber. When he arose from the water he saw his pal Phil, and a new guy Mac. The life rafts were floating away, and Louie took it upon himself to go and get it for them all. Now the U.S. would have no way of finding them.
Hawai'i is a land full of diverse people and ideas, starting from the Polynesians who decided to cross the ocean to settle and form the traditions practiced today by the Hawaiians. Unlike many other states, the beliefs of Hawai'i have managed to stay alive. Its unique culture is what attracts tourists most. Many people see it as a vacation spot, full of fun attractions and say, “When I go to Hawai'i I'm going to get some Hawaiian tattoos, they look so cool!” or “I'm going to buy a hula skirt, they're really pretty!” But all those hula dances and tattoos are not just for show. People do not know that there is more to it than ink or hip swaying; behind every hula skirt and every tattoo there is a story. Hawai’i’s culture consists of the significance of its dances, tattoos, and traditions that give Hawaiians their unique lifestyle.

When we got to the house the morning we were leaving, he showed us a picture of the cabin we would be staying in for the week. It took us a while to pack the car, we all packed some of the same food. The trip to Canada was about two days long by car. On the way there, we stayed in a hotel overnight. When we got to the hotel, we took our luggage to our rooms.
Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.
I was put incharge of spraying water on the bombs, in order to attempt to save them. I was spraying the bombs like my life depended on it because it did. My crew and I pulled out the hoses, but since no one had inspected these hoses for such a long time, they had filled with salt water, which had rotted them from sitting for so long. As soon as the pressure was applied the hose exploded. People were engulfed in flames, for I thought it was over for me. There was no way I thought I could possibly live through this disaster. There was no where I could turn; I was surrounded by fire and the ocean, nowhere was safe. The captain told me to do something and I did it. It seemed like we were fighting off the fire for an eternity; seconds felt like years, but in all reality it was only a few
I spotted a crack in the door’s glass window. The crack seemed to be suck some of the scarce air from the ship! Rafael and I estimated that this minimized up our allotted time to get back to Earth. If we didn’t make it in time, we would die of suffocation! In five hours, we started to enter Earth’s atmosphere and we started to rapidly gain speed. On April 17th we started to head to the Atlantic Ocean and our ship started to burn up. Through the windows of the ship we could see an endless amount of red and blue flames. The flames slipped through the crack in the window, like an acrobat at the circus. The fire cornered Rafael and I and I knew that I would not see my family again. The flames got to Rafael first and he screamed as he disappeared into the
Jon hired a group of specialized divers and bought a ship and submarine. The submarine went to the last known location and dove 400 feet down the Atlantic Ocean. After one week of searching for the plane, a ship looking for wreckage from the spaceship Challenger, found a TBM avenger covered in barnacle and coral. The cruiser immediately called Jon and his crew to the scene. “The only problem Jon had was to lift the plane to identify it, but it was covered in coral which will be hard to lift” (Myre 210). The ship Jon bought had a 50 ton crane on board. The plan was to lift the plane 400 feet out of the ocean with the crane. After 4 hours of carefully carrying the plane, the coral on the plane severed the steel wire, sending the plane to the bottom of the ocean. The next day, Jon and his crew sent out to find the plane, and attempted to lift it up again. His mission was a success and the plane was identified as the captain’s plane.
Arvin discusses the representation of Native Hawaiians and the complexity surrounding this identity. Native Hawaiians have been denied the status of indigenous people and had their land taken away. Arvin explains several cases of spectacle philanthropy which aim to solve issues like the growing homeless population while ignoring the deeper causes to these problems. Native Hawaiians are expected to simultaneously perform as “good citizens” working towards the American dream while at the same time be culturally different. Many Native Hawaiians do not consider themselves U.S. citizens and are often overlooked in media and political representation. Arvin argues that rhetoric surrounding Native Hawaiians is built on a U.S.-centered framework and must be examined with a global perspective in order to productively challenge modern thought. Analyzing Native Hawaiians and the Akaka bill in a comparative global frame can also assist in a broader understanding of citizenship and indigeneity.
I can hear the pounding of the waves against the shore, moving rhythmically with the wind blowing past my face. I feel the hot sand surrounding my toes, only to be cooled down by the touch of the salty deep-blue sea. I listen to mom hysterically laugh as my dad tells another one of his “dad jokes” and as my older brother helps me keep my balance when the waves try to knock me over like a bowling pin. This is the descriptive story that brings me joy to tell my younger brother about my favorite Hawaiian trip before he was born, even though it is impossible for me to remember this from when I was only 3 years old. Why do I torture my brother by gloating to him about this perfect trip? I do it on account of what his birth imposed on me, the curse of being a middle child.
It was like living a dream. He took me out to dinner, met my parents –
Two IT’S BEEN A long time since I’ve been on a road like this. A freeway, I think, with roads going onwards and onwards until somewhere I don’t know. I don’t think I ever will. The sun is shrouded by the violet waves of anguish, of the hideous things people like to call clouds.
The view was so beautiful. I could see coconut trees for miles. Or maybe they were palm trees. I couldn’t tell the difference. I could also sight the ocean, surrounding the entire island. The ocean was clear as glass. I could see many tall skyscrapers and Pearl Harbor in the background, and I could also sight the outline of a beach and mountains in the distance. Welcome to Hawaii, one of the best places to be.
I awoke, there was a crash on the upper deck. I heard a thunderous crackling from my head above. I ran up the stairs and what I saw devastated me. The small wooden boat was completely coated in billowy flames."Help, help, somebody please!"I slowly moved towards the sound being careful to dodge flames as much as possible.
