In discussions of Has Baseball Lost Its Cool? The controversial topic is baseball has become boring. Since, society is changing it is changing how sports are being played. Baseball is too slow some people say while others like it just the way it is. Networks worry their TV ratings will go down, but if you are a true fan then you appreciate the little things in the game. In my opinion baseball is not losing its cool; it is at one of its highest peaks of popularity in a long time, there are many exciting young players coming up with future hall of fame players alongside them, and the rules that are being changed could ruin the game.
One of the main reasons discussions of changing the game is because of TV ratings. But, in 2017 and 2016 ratings were at its highest peak in a while. With the Chicago

But, in 2016 the average game for football is just as long as a baseball game. I know people say football is more exciting, but in reality there is the same amount of stops in the game if not more. Incomplete passes occur, timeouts and penalties are called, and the commercials popping up more and more. Some people might disagree, but the real beauty of the game in baseball is there is no time limit. Each team can not just sit and waste clock like many sports; they have to give the other player a chance to do their job. Now, the most discussed topic that the commissioner wants to implant in the MLB is a 20 second pitch clock. Baseball is a mental sport where you need to gather yourself sometimes and not be rushed. Many pitchers have talked about the future rule and they disagree with it. Communication between the catcher and manager is very important and if the clock is counting down the players have to make a split second decision they might regret later. It would be better for a 25 or 30 second pitch clock because the average for 2017 was 24.2 seconds between each
Is baseball America’s pastime? For the major leaguers maybe, but for college athletes it seems more like a new age video game. The introduction of high dollared aluminum bats produce football like scores, higher statistics, and a percentage of danger to each and every player on the field. The NCAA has changed the regulations of the bats so far and should look further into to making another change to wooden bats.
Critics say that it takes away from the way the game is supposed to be played. The rule, actually brings out the pureness of the game. It lets the hitters concentrate on hitting and the pitchers on pitching.
Baseball has been of the longest living sports in our world today. The game started with the idea of a stick and ball and now has become one of the most complex sports known in our society. Several rules and regulations have been added to help enhance the game for everyone. Although baseball has endured several issues during its history and development of the game the game has still been a success throughout the world.
[1] Baseball is America’s favorite pastime. When people hear the word "America," they think of apple pie, meat and potatoes, July 4th, and inevitably the everlasting love of this country, baseball. The credit is given to a man named Alexander J. Cartwright, who drew up a set of rules for a game played with a bat, a round ball, and a glove. Along with the rules came a sketching of a diamond-shaped field on which the game was to be played. The rules that Cartwright wrote up in 1845 may have very well changed somewhat, but the game of baseball has remained remarkably constant throughout history into today.
...ercent grantees that the best teams will face off in the World Series. Baseball has been a game of adaptation, with the end of the dead ball era by putting cork in the ball, the games populatirty grew because the chance of home runs and harder hit balls made the game more entertaining and interactive. By adding steroid testing, the playing field has been leveled so that no one person has a distinct advantage over another. Both are examples of how the game has developed to benefit both the fans and to the players. The whole world is evolving into a time of equality and fairness and baseball is the last of the major sports in America to adapt this rule of reviewing plays that are controversial.
Any real baseball fan needs to read a copy of Bob Costas' "Fair Ball." Costas addresses the issues pressing Major League Baseball, its owners, its players, and its fans. Everything that caused the 1994 work stoppage could happen again after next season. However, Costas very thoughtfully lays out a plan primarily for the owners, since they should be able to master what they own.
Baseball and football are very popular in America Sports today. Some people think that baseball is just a laid back sport and just boring then other people say football is better because it is more physical and harder and it's a man's game. But that is not true because it comes down to the mental and the physical part of the game baseball over rules all of that.
A dedicated baseball player shows up ready to play and succeed in whatever situation may arise. Baseball is a mental game, and concentration is key to keeping a player mentally prepared. Baseball is both a fast and slow sport, as it is slow between pitches, but very intense during them. During pitches, it is a players time to regroup and think of all the situations that could arise during the next pitch. During the play, everything happens fast, and there is no time to think about what to do, it is all instinct, so the ability to avoid mental errors is crucial.
During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, Major League Baseball, much like the majority of other American institutions, was racially segregated. A color barrier was implemented during baseball’s infancy in order to separate people of different race to cater to the white American players. The color barrier was an unofficial “rule” that hindered those with dark skin from playing baseball for Major League teams. The color barrier was enforced by preventing any teams with a colored player from competing at the professional level. Many team owners, umpires, and players justified their opposition to allowing blacks to play by declaring that only whites could uphold the "gentlemanly character" of professional baseball. Others argued that excluding blacks would prevent future racial resentment between the ethnicities, as players of different races would be competing for the same job opportunities.
Baseball is a unique sport in many different ways. It is the only major competitive sport that has no time limit. The success of a player is determined on how well he can play as an individual and how well the team plays along with him. There are many rules that determine the success of a player’s performance. A baseball game is played with two teams and each team is permitted 25 players per team; however this is only true for professional teams. There are three parts to baseball: offense, pitching, and defense.
Baseball has been a part of me for quite a while now. I have done something baseball related each week for the past several years. It has really changed what I like to do in my spare time, and it also had changed my priorities. This was the first sport I would have played, and I haven’t played a different sport since the start of me playing Baseball. There were and still are so many ways baseball has changed my life.
Baseball needed to find a way to increase hits across the board. To do this baseball took the pitcher out of the batting lineup. In 1976 the designated hitter rule was created in the American League and this new rule allowed teams to have a “designated hitter” to hit for the pitcher. This hitter would only bat and would not contribute to the team on defence except sparing the pitcher from having to step up to the plate. This rule allowed teams to carry player’s who may have been lackluster defensively but could blast the ball at the plate. To many this rule is one of the most controversial topics in modern baseball, but it is unlikely it will leave because, “[i]f you can improve the offensive output, the argument goes, you will sell more tickets”(Roos). Professional baseball is an entertainment provider and a business. In order for professional baseball to continue from year to year, the business needs money and a business is not going to ditch a practice that is profitable. Similar to other rule changes, more hits is what the public wants because hits lead to
The history of baseball has made cultures in America come together more than any other sport. It brings cities together to watch a common game known as “The American Pastime”, but the game is changing along with the world around us. Are the changes good or bad? One thing is for sure through all this. Baseball has become interesting along with being informative.
However, at the same time, they knew that fans loved the game of baseball because of its history. Baseball has a legendary past that appeals to fans. They want the modern technologies without losing the vintage appeal. Major League Baseball has done just that. They have become one of the most technologically advanced sports in America.
For most sports fans there is nothing like opening day and a baseball field. In recent years I have over heard several people say Baseball is not the National Pastime or National Game any longer. When I query these people the typical response is Football is our new National pastime/game. Frank Deford (Nov 7, 2012) a writer for Sports Illustrated said, "Baseball is what we used to be. Football is what we have become." I refuse to believe this based on my knowledge of both games. In this paper we will exam the facts and I would submit to you that Baseball is still the National Pastime/Game and it cannot be disputed.
