The year was 1977 at university of Chicago, Harry Burns had just graduated; leaving her girlfriend Amanda Reese behind as they embarked on journey, to New York with Sally Albright, a friend of Amanda Reese. They argued all through their journey whether men and women can truly be strictly platonic friends. Five years later, Harry and Sally met again at the airport with John kissing sally. She asks John whether he believe in strictly platonic love. With white lie he said yes. But immediately dismissed further talks by telling her that he loves her. Sally with a big smile hugged him. At the beginning of the movie Harry and Sally, had friendship-based intimacy. this kind of intimacy include such attribute as trust, caring honesty, supportiveness, understanding and openness. Then grew into deep friendship and eventually led to romantic and intimate love. For them to ride together to New York had little about each other. Her willingness to take Harry to New York shows caring honesty. When Sally reacted when Harry mention that she was attractive denoted respect that she had with her friend, Harry’s girlfriend. Harry and Sally’s relationships changed gradually, as they spend time together, as they became more self-disclosure and having friends who push them to be partners. In the movie when Harry argued that men and women can’t be friends without sex part always getting in the way, later getting married. Her friend Marie mention that she should marry because the clock was ticking. Meeting each other’s need for instant when Sally lost her friends to marriage she called Harry for comfort.
