The U.S. Treasury frequently changes bills to prevent counterfeit and we may be seeing a new face on the $20 bill. The previous person on the $20 bill, Andrew Jackson, will be replaced with the American icon and abolitionist Harriet Tubman in about 2030, but this change has sparked a debate on whether Andrew Jackson or Harriet Tubman should be on the $20 bill. Harriet Tubman should be the next face on the $20 bill because she was a very important person in American history and it is time to have a woman on a bill and Harriet Tubman is a perfect match.
The first reason that Harriet Tubman should be on the $20 bill is that she was an important American icon and abolitionist. On Harriet Tubman’s Biography.com arcticle, it states, “Harriet Tubman …show more content…

Biography.com states, “The first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war, she guided the Combahee River Raid, which liberated more than 700 slaves in South Carolina.” That shows that Harriet Tubman was a person who is willing to risk her own life for others’ freedom. Biography.com also says, “In December 1851, Tubman guided a group of 11 fugitives northward.” That proves that Harriet Tubman did dangerous tasks to help others, and that makes her a very worthy person for the $20 bill.
Some people think Harriet Tubman should not be on the $20 bill because she was no different than anyone else fighting for freedom in the Civil War, however that is wrong. Harriet Tubman was the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the Civil War, and in the process liberated more than 700 slaves. That makes her very different from any other freedom fighter.
In conclusion, because of her abolitionism, well-deserved fame, and the need for women on currency, Harriet Tubman should be the next face on the $20 bill. So, the treasury’s decision was right, changing Andrew Jackson’s face to Harriet Tubman’s. So remember, Harriet Tubman was a great abolitionist, a freedom fighter unlike any other, and a perfect match for the $20
