On the 17th of December, 1967, the prime minister of Australia, Harold Holt, disappeared. Harold Holt had been the prime minister of Australia for about 22 months before he disappeared. He went out for a swim with three friends and two bodyguards, hoping to catch sight of Alec Rose, who was attempting to sail around the world. However, he swam alone, with his friends and bodyguards remaining on the beach, despite having medical issues, and disappeared. The mystery of Harold Holt's disappearance has sparked multiple theories, like a drowning accident, cheating on his wife, committing suicide, and even disappearing in a Chinese submarine, and it is still mystifying people around the world. The first theory of Harold Holt's disappearance was that he drowned by accident. Harold Holt had several medical problems and the doctors had advised him to stay away from the water. Among his problems, there was a vitamin deficiency, a heart condition, the fact that he was 60 years old, and he had shoulder problems. Even besides his medical issues, swimming in Australia is still dangerous. He could have hit an underwater rock, he could have been pulled down by an underwater current, and he …show more content…
could even have been eaten by a shark, as well as other dangers like jellyfish or sea urchins. Although there has been no end of theories as to how Harold Holt disappeared, this one remains to be the most reasonable. The second theory of Harold Holt's disappearance is that his disappearance was planned.
Numerous people assume that Harold Holt had disappeared intentionally. Some say that he was assassinated, or that he was cheating on his wife and ran away with her. Other theories say that he committed suicide, or was secretly working for the communist parties in China, and that when the people of Australia started to suspect him, he went to China in a Chinese submarine. Although many of these theories don't have any evidence, the only realistic one is that he was assassinated. Before the accident, a bullet hole had been discovered in one of the windows in Harold Holt's office. The shooter has never been identified, and some suspect that he may have somehow assassinated Harold Holt while he was
swimming. The theory that I believe to have the highest level of realism and the most likely to have happened is that he drowned while swimming. I find this to be more realistic than other theories for more than one reason. The first is as a result of Harold Holt's multiple medical issues. On behalf of these issues, he was even warned that he shouldn't go swimming by the doctors. The second reason is the lack of evidence for all other theories. There was no evidence at all for other theories, despite much speculation about them. It was unlikely he committed suicide for the reason that according to his family, he was content with his life and had a complete lack of a reason to have wanted to die. His wife said that their relationship had been fine, and it is unlikely overall that he was a communist and disappeared on a Chinese submarine. The third reason is that there is an abundance of natural dangers when swimming in Australia. Besides all of his medical issues there are still endless amounts of ways that he could have drowned while swimming. After reading my essay, I hope that it is obvious to you that Harold Holt's disappearance was purely accidental. He did not run away, he didn't commit suicide, nor was he assassinated. This becomes obvious as you research more about the incident, and I find all other theories that have been presented by speculators to be suspicious. Although my mind is set on this theory, I would still encourage you to read more about it due to the mystery being extremely interesting and deserves more attention than it has been given.

Helen emerged from her room around 11:00 pm asking for a bottle of wine and Mrs. Townsend delivered the wine and engaged in brief conversation while noticing the young man lying on the bed reading. She was very familiar with Robinson and was able to say without a doubt that he was the one that was in the bedroom with Helen. No one saw him leave nor did anyone let him out. Mrs. Townsend testified that a man had knocked on her door asking to be let out, but told him to have his woman to come and get the key. No one returned for the key so there is no possible logical explanation of how Richard got out of the house, nor was a logical possibility of how anyone else could have gotten in the house.
