Lifting Dreams The artists and writers of the Harlem Renaissance had so many themes to convey, but one theme in particular was most common among all these pieces of art. The theme is to empower the ones around us to never give up on their dreams. Of all the works we have studied so far, Couple by James Van Der Zee, Lift Every Voice and Sing by James Weldon Johnson, and Calling Dreams by Georgia Douglas Johnson are the pieces of artwork that most symbolize empowering others to always keep on dreaming. These two people shown by the photographer show a luxurious life in any year is created by working hard to get where they have gotten. This photo helps people see what you can do when you never give up on your dreams. The song Lift Every Voice and Sing by James Weldon Johnson shows that sticking together will help dreams come true for all. When you listen to Lift Every Voice you hear it's not one person singing, it's a group of people singing. They are singing about bringing unity, liberty, and kindness to communities around the world. The line “Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise” shows that people lift each other's spirits. This song lets people know that there is hope and empowerment when you are in a community that cares, and lets you be yourself. In the poem Calling Dreams by Georgia Douglas Johnson, she shows people can have dreams of any kind, and have the right to do so. The line “And now at length I rise! I wake, And stride into the morning break!” shows that if you have dreams you can never be bored of. Always ready for the next dream to come!
