William Shakespeare was a very famous English poet, playwright, and actor. One of the famous plays that he wrote was “Hamlet”. Hamlet is a very famous play and many play writers or directors interpret Shakespeare’s play differently. A Great scene to compares is Act5 scene 2. The two films that will be compared are “Hamlet” from 1996 directed by Kenneth Branagh and “Hamlet” from 2009 directed by Gregory Doran. The two different directors took the same play and made it reflect their own interpretation. In this film there are guns, technology, and up to date clothing. In this film compared to the other film Hamlet is made out to be crazier in this film. Hamlet may be mad, but it is justified. He is still mad at his mother, but doesn’t seek revenge on her. Hamlet does not seek revenge because the ghost told him not to. This is the main reason why Hamlet is insane. The film portrays the ghost only being a figure of Hamlet’s imagination. Hamlet has a lot of emotional turmoil, but in both films Hamlet has calmed down. Hamlet is not crazy anymore but he doesn’t feel guilty about his wrong doings. Hamlet does not apologizes to Lacerates because he is guilt. Hamlet apologizes because he has empathy and can relate to his father’s death. Hamlet thinks everything that happens is out of his hands He thinks it was fate. Both fighting scenes are very dramatic, but this fight is not as intense. The fighting between Hamlet and Laertes does not drag out compared to the other film. Also Laertes is just wounded and dies. In the first film Laertes actually falls off of the balcony. The king in this d film doesn’t run away from Hamlet. The king cries out for help, but no one helps him. No helped the king, so he just gives up. The king willingly drinks the wine and dies. The king in both films was not guilty for the wrong he did. He had no choice but to die. In both films Hamlet dies at peace. Hamlet and Laetes makes a mend and forgive each other. Also in both films Hamlet tells Horatio not to kill himself. He wanted Horatio to live and tell his
