Gun violence has always been a problem in America. Whether it is promoted in video games or television, it is in the face of the average American citizen daily. The main argument has been whether or not civilians should be allowed to exercise their 2nd amendment. Additionally, there have been many cases of gun violence due to individuals suffering from mental illnesses. Furthermore, as of late, there have been a string of civilian deaths at the hands of police. These events have led to anti-police mentality, especially amongst minorities. Now, I believe that an individual should have the right to defend themselves. However, with the growing numbers of deaths due to guns, there has to be a change in how society views violence. Reason being, most of the gun shootings that comes on television highlights on how the individual has been suffering from some mental illness. Additionally, it is summarized that everyone that is a part of gun violence has a mental illness. Sadly this isn't always the case. There are some individuals who thrive on causing pain in others. For one reason or another, they receive joy by causing pain in others and want their 15 minutes of fame. One of the biggest complexities is how to fully curb the problem. One way to curb the problem is to reduce access to firearms. Preventing this is how accessible deadly firearms are available to the public. With many gun shows displaying weapons weekly, anyone can obtain a weapon. Many people believe that by making everyone take a psych evaluation can help curb individuals with mental issues from obtaining weapons. When I think of institutions, the government and media first come to mind. I believe the media, along with the tragedies, is keeping the issue relevant. In my opinion, I believe the media is supporting the problem. I say they are supporting the problem, because of how the media is playing to individual's emotions. The two sides are we should curb gun violence by taking away weapons and we prevent gun violence by arming personnel in schools and other venues. In my opinion, to help diminish the situation, proper education is important. We would stress the fact that as a society that we promote gun violence by showing it daily. By promoting education and non-gun violence, we as a society can bring down the number of shooting instances. In regards to the subject, I believe that my thinking is rational and justified. I usually promote non-violence except in self-defense. Reason being, I believe that someone should take every mean to defend themselves if they believe their life is in danger. I can see how some people may feel differently with me being in the military. With all of my training, I was trained to kill. This would be contradictory to my personal beliefs if I was ever put into a situation where I would have to take someone's life. However, as part of my oath, I put my personal beliefs aside for a greater good. Lastly, is there have been a lot of gun violence recently between civilians and police
