Up in outer space, miles away from earth, was Miles Stark. A former astronaut that wasn't like most you could say the least. Miles is a type of guy that he thinks he is something that he's not. Miles has a pretty supportive family, he has a single mom that he grew up with, they are basically best friends, and a younger brother that he wants to fight every time he sees him. His brother is the complete opposite of him, he's a lawyer and has a very nice house and big family with 4 kids and wife. On the other hand, Miles is single and lives alone and has a dog. They just don’t get along at all. Miles went on a trip to outer space one day with his team to go on a mission. They were supposed to explore space and go observe a planet they have not …show more content…
been on before. Miles is the only one that believes in life outside of earth, everyone else thinks there is no such thing as life outside of earth. It’s their second day up in space and they are finally passing all the other planets that they have already been to. They come upon a new planet that no one has been on before so they decided to land their ship and go explore. One the ship landed, the suited up and out they went into a new world. You couldn’t see anything of miles, you were just surrounded by purple gravel and some trees. “Alright everyone, let’s split up! We need to try and get as much data as we can.” “Okay,” said his team mate Joe, “Meet back at the ship in five hours.” “Be safe everyone! Stay focused and try and find something new.” Miles and his group of four headed east on the new planet. They noticed something kind of odd. The more they went east, the more the planet transformed into a community it seemed like. Random roads, some buildings, more trees and plants, they wondered what they might be discovering. Miles was jumping off the walls, he might actually be right about alien life on different planets. They continued on their way until their lives flashed before their eyes. “Miles, I hate to say this, but you’re right… there really is alien life!” “I knew it!” Miles said jumping off the ground, “Come on, let’s get closer.” The team moved slowly, hiding and keeping low out of the aliens sight.
They didn’t know how dangerous they could be or what they do to humans. They ended up getting really close and started taking some photos and observations. The team saw this community that they created and it was shockingly neat and well kept. They saw that every alien had black body art all over their bodies and they were all vibrant colors. Miles took a step out of his hiding spot to take a picture, and of course with his luck, the flash went off and he was spotted by the aliens. “Run!!” said Miles. “Why do you always ruin everything Miles?” a team mate said. “It was an accident, shut up and run. The aliens are catching up real fast.” Miles screamed. They were running out of times, the aliens seemed to have super speed and caught up to the team real fast. As soon as they knew it, they were surrounded by the aliens. They all sat there thinking what to do next, but for miles, he was thinking of something different. Miles started thinking back to his childhood because of what was going on in the moment. He remembered back to when his dad was still around and how much of a bad person he was. The fear that Miles was facing in that moment was the same fear he felt when he was younger. He hates when this stuff happens because it really messes with his head. ‘Miles… Miles?... MILES!!!” one of his teammates shouted, “Snap out of it, pay attention to what they are
saying” “Deca.. Deca.. Deca,” the aliens said over and over again. The aliens had the team take them back to their ship so they can leave. When the team got back to where the ship was, they noticed it was gone. So at this point, everyone was freaking out. The Deca aliens took them back to their community and started doing these weird rituals on them. The more and more these weird words came out of their mouths, the more Miles started to feel weirder and weirder. He could feel his skin changing and his thoughts started changing into the Deca language. As soon as they knew it, The whole team turned into Deca aliens and started to adapt to the culture. For the rest of the team, they took the ship back because Miles team didn’t make it back in time. It was in their orders, so they had to do what they were told. The rest of the team never heard from them again, but they did see them. Before the other team left, they put up cameras around the planet and they got the whole transformation on camera. They knew they couldn’t do anything to save them anymore. So Miles and his team are now Deca aliens and will continue their life up on the Deca planet for the rest of their life.
His parents were murdered in a car-jacking incident while living in California. Before his parents were murdered, Russ was one of the best high school basketball players in the country. Once his parents were gone, he shut down. He had to get help from so many people and even change his last name so that people would not recognize him. He used space as a way to escape from his past and present. Space was a memory of his parents which was why he used it to escape. Russ always talks about how he was going to leave this planet soon because his parents were going to come pick him up. I interpreted the fact that he was leaving soon to mean he was going to commit suicide. He found Finley to help him ease into the Bellmont life even though he acted as Boy21. Boy21 would act as if he were from outer space. He would talk and dress different from everyone else. This was a way for him to cope with the events that happened in the past. “I can always look up at the cosmos and marvel, no matter what happens. And when I look up at it, I feel as though my problems are small. I don 't know why, but it always makes me feel better.” This quote describes the way that Russ feels about space and how he uses it to escape from everything. Russ originally does not want to play basketball when he first comes to Bellmont. Coach was a strong influence on how he got into basketball again. Coach really wanted Russ to play because of how

When being introduced to the characters, sometimes we learn about their appearance, personalities, profession, or history. Miles is a single man who does not have a successful love life. His first love, Carla Carpenter, was a distant girl (by choice) who ended up marrying Miles’ brother Dale. When Anna Thea Hayworth came along, Miles seems to fancy her but never did anything about it. He has nicknamed her Thanatopsis, but she married Wayne Workman, Staggerford’s principal. Miles does not get along with Wayne, probably due to his liking of Anna Thea. As for nonromantic relationships, Miles has is a friendship with the librarian Imogene Kite. Miles describes her as “too tall and bloodless to be attractive” (Hassler 29). On impulse, Miles kisses Imogene for no reason; this proves that Miles is desperate, lonely, and incapable of having clear feelings.
The two characters come to the realization that they do share a brotherly bond, and that the narrator cares deeply for his brother even after all the time apart. The narrator says, “I don’t give a damn wh...

The short story, "The Rich Brother," by Tobias Wolff represents the same concept that everyday people all over the world encounter. This portrays how having siblings can be an enormous part of a persons life. The rivalry between siblings is often very competitive, but at the same time similar to magnets. When they are not connected it may seem they are independent and whole, but when examined closely it is obvious they are really relying on each other to function properly. Although Pete and Donald's life are separate and completely different, they are in fact very dependent on each other.
"Look guys we need to be focused because we have to go through Philly to get to Baltimore and the big city is no walk in the park."
