The Early Mornings of Opening at a Subway Restaurant
It’s a weekday and there’s nothing to eat at home. You think of all of the possible options—fast food? Takeout? Order? Then finally you realize that you haven’t had a delicious sandwich in a long time so why not go to Subway? The sandwich artist begins making the sandwich you have requested, just as you would’ve done at home with your own ingredients. “Wow this is the easiest job in the world,” one may think. However there is so much more to this job than someone may even imagine!
It’s 7:25 AM and Diamond and I were standing outside of a dark Subway restaurant as she unlocked the building. Walking in, she turns on the soup warmer, the

Then she returns to the back and begins working on her second batch—Italian herb ad cheese. The thin pieces of dough are rolled in seasoning and brought to the front. This process is repeated until all of the bread has made its way to the proofer. Bread that has finished rising is goes into the oven. Black bins of food from the back refrigerator have to be brought to the front and arranged in the correct order to be displayed in the front glass. It’s 8 AM, all of the opening duties are complete and now it’s time to open the …show more content…
Suddenly the alarm goes off signifying that a customer has come in. She has to stop in her tracks and go to the front to greet the customer. She washes her hands and puts on gloves as the customer describes the specialty sandwich he’s craving. The bread is cut in half and as she begins creating the sandwich, the oven timer goes off! “I’m sorry sir, could you give me a minute?” she asks. As I glance at the customer, I see that he rolled his eyes and begins to look irritated. She runs to put on her oven mitts as she pulls out the third pan, the man sighs loudly. He looks at me annoyed and sternly says, “Can’t you finish? I’m in a rush, I need to go.” I put on a phony smile and tell him that I don’t work at Subway and I’m only here to observe. “Ha, great, it figures.” He says. When Diamond finished taking the bread out of the oven, the look in her eyes was that of a kid who was teased on the playground but decided to suck it up. She finishes his sandwich and sends him on his

In today’s society Americans want everything quick and cheap, so the question stands what is a quick lunch and what is available for an economical price? Americans live in a world that surrounds us with fast food restaurants. Two of the most well known restaurants for fast food restaurants is McDonald 's and Checkers. Far from what we imagined, McDonald 's and Checkers have huge differences. Most people perceive them just as the same fast food restaurant with different names. For this reason, they create debates on which one of them is the superior restaurant and which one is the more economical price. Though neither of these companies provides the healthiest foods for Americans the question stands, which one is for lunch today? Even though,
Ding-dong rings the doorbell as the customer is greeted; “welcome” and the smell of freshly baked bread and cookies fill the restaurant. The menu board panels with well lighting are structured high on the wall with bold eye catching colors such as: yellow, green, black and red. The glass-structured refrigerator/cooler display the choices available to create a sandwich from meats, cheese, and vegetables, as well as dressing and dry condiments. Robert Griffin III (RG3) is shown with a football in hand advertising a six-inch smokehouse BBQ chicken sandwich. “Subway, eat fresh” When I think of Subway I think of freshly made sandwiches, I can custom order my sandwich and watch the sandwich artist create it, but I
next. The order to prompt a person for "veggies" is: hot or mild peppers; pickles, peppers, olives; lettuce, onion, tomato. Finally on the layer of vegetables are applied the other condiments: oil, vinegar, salt, pepper. The lid to the sandwich is situated on top. If the comestible is of the foot-long variety, then it is cut in half before
American pay more in fast food than one does on entrainment like movies, books, and music combined. In 1970, The United States spend around $6 billion on fast food and by the end of 2011 the amount was nearly doubled to $110 billion. Fast food is now found all over the places like hospitals, airports, and zoos. “What We Eat”, wrote by Eric Schlosser reflects on his research on the far-reaching effects of the American life. “What We Eat,” is a look into the rapid increase and popularity in fast food for the American people along with the physical and social consequence of the rapidly growth of the service economy.
I take the turkey and set it on the counter. Then I grab the Buttermilk White bread, freshly made by my mom. She’s like Martha Stewart, you know. She grows the wheat herself. She uses some kind of mill we have in the back yard to grind it into flour. We have a cow. She milked it herself. Then she made the buttermilk to put into the bread. Anyway, that’s off the subject.
Section 1: Typically, we need a well-balanced meal to give us the energy to do day-to-day tasks and sometimes we aren’t able to get home cooked meals that are healthy and nutritious on a daily basis, due to the reasons of perhaps low income or your mom not being able to have the time to cook. People rely on fast food, because it’s quicker and always very convenient for full-time workers or anyone in general who just want a quick meal. Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation argues that Americans should change their nutritional behaviors. In his book, Schlosser inspects the social and economic penalties of the processes of one specific section of the American food system: the fast food industry. Schlosser details the stages of the fast food production process, like the farms, the slaughterhouse and processing plant, and the fast food franchise itself. Schlosser uses his skill as a journalist to bring together appropriate historical developments and trends, illustrative statistics, and telling stories about the lives of industry participants. Schlosser is troubled by our nation’s fast-food habit and the reasons Schlosser sees fast food as a national plague have more to do with the pure presence of the stuff — the way it has penetrated almost every feature of our culture, altering “not only the American food, but also our landscape, economy, staff, and popular culture. This book is about fast food, the values it represents, and the world it has made," writes Eric Schlosser in the introduction of his book. His argument against fast food is based on the evidence that "the real price never appears on the menu." The "real price," according to Schlosser, varieties from destroying small business, scattering pathogenic germs, abusing wor...
Looking around this packed room, it's surprising just how far some people are prepared to travel for a free lunch. It's very fortunate that Charles was not involved in developing the menu; otherwise you would have been very disappointed to have come all this way for cheese sandwiches washed down with lager.
Rachel Lauden’s essay In Praise of Fast Food presents a fresh point of view by taking a look at the way the poor fed themselves throughout history and comparing it with the reality of today’s fast food industry. The current thinking about fast food is that it is unhealthy and leads to diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, when it is eaten without moderation. The argument Ms. Lauden proposes is that, due to the difficulties in procuring and preparing healthy, sanitary food for the lower classes, fast food is a positive development. She pointed out that as recently as the 1930s, poor children were cooking for themselves in outdoor shanties in extremely unsanitary conditions, and she emphasized the idea that upper classes invented ethnic dishes.
The traditional Italian sub consists of tomatoes, lettuce, and onions. With the bread, mayonnaise, meats, and cheese already applied to your sub. Now you add four tomatoes, then the lettuce, and finally the onions. Particularly a customer only receives four tomatoes, but all the other toppings are added with the amount they prefer. After you have applied all of your ingredients you now close up the sub. You take your knife and with it in one hand you neatly hold down your ingredients with that knife. While taking your other hand and closing the sub towards the knife. Finally, you take the knife out of the sub and cut it directly in half. After you have cut the sub in two you continue by wrapping both sub halves in separate sub papers. Followed by putting each wrapped half in a to go bag. Your final step is to put a price tag on the bag, and insuring the customer was satisfied with their

There has been exponential rise in the number of eateries in most of the towns worldwide. This is partly brought about by the ballooning urban population, as well as the emergence of working middle class population who find themselves tied up by work in the cities they reside.
It was like any other day, The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. People were going about with their normal and happy lives. There were families that were playing around with their kids and people walking their dogs. It was a Sunday, but even though the mood and morale above seems positive, the mood below was very sinister. Below was a subway that was not very pleasing to the eye.
