I have been surrounded by dead for millennia. After by brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, tricked me into making my domain in the underworld I rarely go to the surface. My brothers and sisters kicked me out of Mount Olympus. I am rarely visited by anyone unless they require something from me. Even then they are the sons and daughters of my family and those rotten demigods always steal or trick me into giving them what they want. The most recent was Hercules. He snuck into my domain, dipped himself into the river Styx, and brought his girlfriend back to life! Because of the intolerable acts of mortals I have decided to only concern myself with the dead. On the other hand, I do crave the soft touch of a woman's hand across my cheek, and the gentle …show more content…
She continued to stare looking terrified of me, which is not what I wanted. "Do you like gems and shiny things?" I continued asking, "Why don't you come with me to my wonderful palace and pick from my garden of rubies and emeralds?" At this, she opened her mouth to scream for her mother, but I gagged her and took her into the underworld with me. I attempted to get her to eat food prepared from the herbs in my garden, but she wouldn't eat anything. I tried to get her to take a sip from the river Lithe, which makes you forget everything, but she refused saying, ""I had a thousand times rather be miserable with remembering my mother, than be happy in forgetting her. That dear, dear mother! I never, never will forget her. I will neither drink that nor anything else. Nor will I taste a morsel of food, even if you keep me forever in your palace. (copied from the original text)" This made me furious. Meanwhile, more mortals were dying, at a faster rate, than usual. I looked above for the answer to this. Circe, that stupid goddess, blamed the mortals for me taking Proserpina and refused to let anything grow, now the earth was a frozen barren land, not able to be inhabited in. I went back below and continued to try and get Proserpina to eat or drink
A man dies. He winds his way down into the underworld to reach the banks of the river Acheron where he meets the ferryman Charon. He takes a coin from his mouth to pay the toll across. On the opposite bank he is greeted by a Maenad or perhaps Bacchus himself who offers him a kylix of wine. Drinking deep, the man is transformed and resurrected from death to a higher plane. Instead of living a miserable dream in the underworld he receives redemption from his god Dionysos, the Savior. In Roman imperial times there was a great resurgence of the "Mystery" cults of Greece fueled by the hope of a life after death. In funerary monuments there can be seen the tenets of the religion as well as how it views the afterlife. Within the Los Angeles County Art Museum stands such a vessel created to facilitate this journey to eternal bliss.

The Ancient Greeks sought to define how humans should view their lives and how to create an existence dedicated to the basis of the “ideal” nature. This existence would be lived so as to create an “honorable” death upon their life’s end. Within their plays, both dramas and comedies, they sought to show the most extreme characteristics of human nature, those of the wise and worthy of Greek kleos along with the weak and greedy of mind, and how they were each entitled to a death but of varying significance. The Odyssey, their greatest surviving drama, stands as the epitome of defining both the flawed and ideal human and how each individual should approach death and its rewards and cautions through their journeys. Death is shown to be the consequence
In this story Proserpina gets abducted by Pluto while she was picking flowers. “While with girlish fondness she filled the folds of her gown, and her basket, trying to outdo her companions in her picking, Dis almost in a moment, saw her, prized her, took her…” (Book 5, 385-424). After Pluto abducted Proserpina, he took her to the Underworld. Ceres, which is Proserpina’s mother was panicking over her daughter going missing. She searched everywhere for her, and no one knew where she was. Ceres came across Cyane’s fountain and also found her daughter’s girdle. Arethusa, which is a water goddess told Ceres that Proserpina had been taken to the underworld by Pluto. Ceres goes to Jove so Jupiter will help find their daughter. Jove would only help Ceres if Proserpina hadn’t eaten any food from the underworld. Jove said, “but if you have such great to separate them, Proserpine shall return to heaven, but only on one condition, that no food has touched her lips, since that is the law, decreed by the Fates.” (Book 5, 487-532). Proserpina had eaten seven pomegranate seeds. Since she had eaten food from the underworld, Jove decided to split the year in half so Proserpina could spend equal time with her mother and her abductor, which was also her husband now. Today, there are people all around the world that get abducted, but they don’t get taken to the

The first piece of advice that the mother gives regarding how she should conduct herself is that she should eat in a way that would “turn someone else’s stomach.” One could

Salve Hercules! It has been a very long time since the last time we have spoken. The previous time we came into contact with each other was a dreadful experience. As I stand here every day and struggle to hold the weight of the heavens, I envy and crave your ability to roam freely all around the world without anything ever holding you back. You are free to do anything and go anywhere you wish while I am stuck in one place with an entire world on top of me. I do not even have a voice to be heard or a choice to be made to change it. While I am trapped under a massive and heavy load that I can not escape, you are living a content and fulfilling life with anyone, anywhere. I am still in absolute
"I already have eaten the food of the underworld, so I can't come back to you. But since you are here to see me, I'll ask the god of the underworld if I can go with you. You have to promise me one thing. Do not try to get a look at me until I come back here."
We tried calling and finally she answered and told me “ You didn’t listen to me know you have to figure it out know break a leg.” We kept on thinking what to do over and over again. We were stuck down on the tunnel and tried to climb up but it was to slippery. Then we tried to make go on top of each other to see if we could reach the top of the tunnel. That was a total fail we tried to think of more ideas but we ran out.
Looks like I'll have to carry her to the castle. Her small frame grew colder and colder as I hussled to put her on my back. I hoping she doesn't wake up just yet or else I'll have to play the "Prince" card. I took off the scarf I wore around my neck and tossed it over her head. I glanced up at her and shuddered at the thought me trying to save her sent her body into hypothermia. I would kill myself if that
