Hades: God of the Underworld
Hades is one of the most important Greek gods and is one of the most highly known throughout the world. He is the son of the titan, Cronus, and brother to Zeus and Poseidon. After the defeat of Cronus, the three gods, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, had to decide who would rule what kingdom (“Hades” par 5). Zeus took domain over the skies, Poseidon was given control over the sea, and Hades was left with the land of the dead (par 5). Even though he did not like the domain he was given, he seemed to be a perfect match for it. Hades soon became a powerful god, and well suited to rule the Underworld. He took a key role in defeating Cronus, he has

never let anyone return from the underworld, and he is one of the most important gods. Hades was an important asset in the defeat of Cronus.
During the war between the gods and titans, a group of cyclopes, “endowed the three Olympian each with their own weapon”(“Hades” par 2). Zeus, God of the Skies, was given a bolt of lightning, Poseidon, God of the Seas, was given a trident, and Hades, God of the Underworld, was given a helm of invisibility (par 2). With this helm of invisibility, Hades was able to sneak into the enemy base and destroy most of their weapons (par 3). He was also able to distract and confuse the great Titan, Cronus (par 4). While Cronus was distracted, Poseidon was able to pin him down with his trident, and with the Titan disabled, Zeus was able to finish him off with his lightning bolt (par 4). Without Hades, the gods would not have the advantage of distraction and would not be able to face the might of …show more content…
Cronus. Hades has never let any soul escape the Underworld, nor has any mortal returned from the Underworld. With the Titan defeated, the gods then began to take command of their empires. Hades put effort and into building his Underworld. His fortifications made the Underworld a, “brutal, terrifying, and deadly realm(“Tartarus” par 2). No moral, creature, or soul has ever entered and returned alive aside from two special cases (Evslin 21). Hades has never let anyone return from the Underworld. Hades guards the Underworld well by having Charon bring souls across the River Styx (19). All living mortals respect, honor, and fear Charon. Once a person dies, it is the job of those still living to place a coin with the person once he is buried (19). This coin for their soul, to allow them to toll Charon demands to cross the river (19). Without the coin, the souls can not enter and will not move on (19). Cerberus guards the gate to Tartarus (20). Tartarus is an asylum far below Hades and, “Although the kingdom of Hades was the place of the dead, Tartarus was where ferocious monsters and horrible criminals were banished, or where the gods imprisoned their rivals after a war” (“Tartarus” par 2). Hades is one of the most important gods. He is needed to rule the souls of the those who have passed on. Without Hades, there would would be no ruler of the Underworld. The ruler of the Underworld is responsible for all the souls who enter. The ruler is to determine where each soul goes and the punishment, if any, that is to be determined (“Hades” par 11). The ruler is to oversee Tartarus, and the souls, monsters, or gods banished within it (par 11). The ruler is the one who keeps the balance between life and death. Without a ruler, all of the Underworld would fall into anarchy. It is very crucial that the Underworld has a strong and powerful leader, capable of running it. Hades is the only god with this potential. Hades, as stated previously, constructed the Underworld and its security in a way no other god could. Hades also married Persephone, the daughter of the goddess who gives life, Demeter (Evslin 22). His marriage give him a clear picture and understanding of life and death itself. Hades facilitated the defeat of Cronus.
He aided his brothers to bring down the mighty Titan. His contribution within the war was a necessary catalyst for the victory of the gods. Hades has never let anyone return from his realm. Those who have entered the underworld never escaped. No one has ever been able to sneak aboard Charon’s ship, nor has anyone been able to defeat the three headed dog, Cerberus. Hades has made the Underworld an impenetrable realm to house the dead. He also is one of the most important gods. He is the ruler of the Underworld, he is needed to control its chaos. He give afterlife to those who have passed. He punishes the evil souls who enter. He separates the land of living from the land of the

The character Hades from the Disney movie Hercules is an allusion to Hades from Greek Mythology. The movie takes the traditional character of Hades as the god of the underworld from Greek mythology and makes it palatable for children.
The House of Hades by Rick Riordan is a classic tale of good and evil. this book is the sequel to The Mark of Athena in the Heroes of Olympus series. In the article “Stories of the Trojan War,” it talks about how the gods are raged by the disobedience of the mortals which caused uproar during the time (Peabody). One of the gods that seemed to have a raging authority was Poseidon, god of the sea. He made the journey of Odysseus very hard. For instance, Poseidon would make the sea’s rage, blew Odysseus and his crew off track, and last he strikes them with thunder. That ultimately destroys the crew; except for Odysseus who is left stranded until found by Calypso (Puchner). The actual cause of Poseidon’s anger was due to the fact that Odysseus had killed Poseidon’s son, Polyphemus in a horrific manner. Also, because Odysseus was not appreciative of the fact that Poseidon helped keep his secret of his plot to invade with the
People idolized these beings and built stunning life-like sculptures of them. Zeus was the most important of all the Greek gods and also king of Mount Olympus. He became a king after overthrowing his father, who was a titan and feared that his children would become more powerful than him. He is very well known for being deceiving, and a trickster.
In the beginning, it all started with the gods and goddesses Cronus (God of the Sky) and Rhea (Goddess of the Earth). They met and got married. While they were married they produced six offspring. These offspring would turn out to be some of the most famous in mythology. The offspring consisted of Hestia, Hades, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera, and of course, the famous Zeus. Poseidon was the oldest son to be born from these two. Unfortunately when the offspring were born Cronus devoured most, even though Rhea tried many times to keep that from happening. Finally when Zeus was born she tricked Cronus into thinking it was his own son, when handed to him, and he eat him like all the others. But after doing so, Rhea told Cronus that she had given him a stone wrapped up in a blanket. Zeus later overthrew his father and released all of his other kin. After overthrowing Cronus, Zeus took over the ruler of the kingdom. With him taking the thrown on Mt. Olympus, he chose Hades to rule the underworld and Poseidon to look after the sea and land. Poseidon was a very powerful god and ruled with fury. He was made the god of waters in general and of the sea in particular (1). He is an equal in dignity to Zeus but not in power. This is important because it does not allow Poseidon to question his br...

Zeus stopped the fight against his eldest brother and asked Hades why he fought him for 7 days if he knew he was bound to lose, Hades said to Zeus ,“ My dear brother I would love to be the ruler of this kingdom but I just cannot defeat you. You are way to young and powerful for me, I shall go back down to my world where I belong and rule the Underworld.” As Hades traveled back to the underworld he thought to himself he doesn’t need to run two kingdoms to be powerful I will be the best King of the Underworld I can
The ancient Greeks believed that almost all mortals would reside in the underworld after their death. Those fortunate few that did not either gained a place at Mount Olympus or became gods or goddesses themselves (Joe). The underworld was ruled by Hades although there were many other deities in the underworld. Hades acquired the underworld when he and his two brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, divided the universe (Joe). Zeus received the sky, Poseidon received the sea and Hades received the underworld.
The primary ruling god of the underworld is Hades, whose brother is Zeus, king of the gods, and whose parents are Cronus and Rhea. Hades is a greedy god with his greatest concern being to increase the number of his subjects. He is very stubborn about letting people out of the underworld. Hades himself, rarely leaves the underworld. In one myth, however, we know of a time when he did leave his soulful domain.
Hercules, or known in Latin as Heracles, was the greatest of the Greek heroes, a paragon of masculinity. In art Hercules was portrayed as a powerful, muscular man wearing lion's skin and armed with a huge club. He was also described as being a macho man buffoon, who was very impulsive. Hercules’ home and birthing place is in Thebes, Greece. Thebes is a city in central Greece. It plays as an important setting in many Greek myths, such as the stories of Cadmus, Oedipus, Dionysus and many other important roles in Greek Mythology. The demigod, Hercules has an interesting origin, he is most famous for his 12 labors, and leaves a legacy in words and expressions.
Assisted by the Cyclops (they gave Zeus his thunderbolts, Poseidon his trident and Hades his helmet of invisibility) and the Hecatoncheires (the Hundred-handed-ones), the siblings fought a terrible war that lasted ten years. In the end they were victorious, banishing their vanquished foes to the deepest depths of the Underworld, called Tartarus. This dark and woeful place is as far beneath the earth as heaven is above the earth. Around Tartarus runs a fence of bronze with gates of bronze, which Poseidon fixed in such as way as to offer no escape, and there the Titans were forever confined.

According to “Persephone, Demeter, and Hades” It starts off with “Persephone who is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, the goddess of agriculture (farming). Hades who is her uncle, abducts Persephone while she was picking flowers with her companions in a meadow.” According to “Classical Mythology” it states “Hades had other plans for Persephone: he would steal her innocence and virginity and turn her into the dreaded goddess of the Underworld.” It also states how “Persephone was gathering flowers one day on a plain in Sicily. Hades appeared, thundering across the plain in his four-horse chariot. The god then jumped down upon Persephone, and scooped her up with one arm. After abducting her, he carries her off to the Underworld. Demeter who is Persephone’s mother soon came to retrieve her daughter, but was unable to find a trace of Persephone. She traveled to the corners of the earth, searching for nine full days and nights without ever stopping to eat, drink, bathe, or rest. Demeter was in a fury so in retaliation she destroyed lands, crops, and livestock as she complained to the loss of her daughter. She threatened to make the earth unproductive forever and thus destroy all of humankind if she did not find her
The Underworld, better known as Hades after the god who ruled it, was a dark and dreary place where the shades, or souls, of those who died lived. In the next few minutes, I will tell you about how one came to die, the topography of the Underworld, and the beings whom dwelled there.
As a result Zeus let his brother, Hades go on a rampage against mankind in order to teach mankind a lesson and stop any of his relatives who would try to stop him in his tracks. • Hades releases his beast the Kraken to ravage mankind and punish them for their defiance against the gods. • Hades tries sends furies to deal with the people who would tear down the statues of the gods along with those who desecrate their statues and tries to stop Percuss by sending the king that defied Zeus that was as a result changed into a hideous creature that seeks ravage against Zeus and his son, Percuss. Mankind shows that they do need the gods as they need them because they need hope which the gods provide them in the form of heroes and
