In 2010 two Russian-born scientists pioneered and synthesized a form of “wonder material” that generates heat and electricity at faster speeds, copes with high temperatures, and is almost transparent. Graphene is arranged in a flat hexagon lattice (like microscopic chicken wire) and is one atom thick two-dimensional 〖sp〗^2 bonded carbon. It is the world’s thinnest and strongest material, which can be manufactured into a plethora of provisions that can be used for next generation technology, such as planes, satellites, cars, and computers. However, uses of the material can be expensive and difficult to manufacture for mass production, which is why many of us today do not have access to graphene or use it for various applications in technology in day-to-day life. Graphene is a newly developing material, which is under scrutiny and scientific study in order to integrate it simply and effectively into everyday life.

This article is about an experiment done to try to see if Aluminum can cause resistance in potatoes to a disease. Aluminum is commonly found in arid soils which accounts for 35% of all farmable on earth. The aluminum (specifically Al3+) targets the roots of the plants and causes stunted plant growth and abnormal root formation. THis causes stresses in the plant which could lead to cross resistance. This immunity has led to some plants to develop cross resistance to diseases. THis has happened before in the plant, an example is the fact that ozone induces resistance to the tobacco mosaic virus in tobacco plants. Graphene has received great mass media coverage since Geim and Novoselov published their foundlings about monocrystalline graphitic films in 2004, which won them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010. (Novoselov et al, 2004) It has been described as the wonder substance or super material by the mass media, not only because it is the thinnest material ever known and the strongest ever measured, but also due to its excellent electrical, thermal, mechanical, electronic, and optical properties. It has high specific surface area, high chemical stability, high optical transmittance, high elasticity, high porosity, tunable band gap, and ease of chemical functionalization which helps in tuning its properties (Geim et al, 2007) Moreover, graphene has a multitude of amazing properties such as half-integer room-temperature quantum Hall effect (Novoselov et al, 2007), long-range ballistic transport with almost ten times greater electron mobility than that of silicon, and availability of charge carriers that behave as massless relativistic quasi particle, known as Dirac fermions. (Geim et al, 2007) The outstanding electrical conductivity and the transparency and flexibility of graphene-based material have led to research and development of some future technologies, such as flexible and wearable electronics. Humans these days take electricity for granted. We don’t truly understand what life was like without it. Most young adults will tell you their life does not depend on electricity, but they aren’t fooling anyone. They all know that their life depends on electricity; whether it’s television, their phone, Google, or the lights in their house. We need to stop taking those things for granted and give credit where credit is due. That is why I chose to write about the scientists who contributed to the discovery of electricity, which then helped modern scientists fuel the electricity phenomenons we now have today.

Human beings are susceptible to the force of nature. They had to make shelter for themselves. Material was one of the most basic tools to create shelter. By development of building construction, selection and use of materials also developed. The relationship between the architecture and the materials before invention of modern materials was simple and generally naturally [1]; in the past, architects always use tradition materials according their experimental skills. For choosing structural materials, they had attention to important factors such as availability (local materials) and harmony with climate and culture [2], although this way was forward with feedback. But this relationship was not continuing simply.
When I was first assigned, the “invent your own technology” assignment, I had no idea of how I was going to complete this project. I had no understanding of why we had to create a project like this, especially when there are already various writing technologies available to us. I can honestly say, that by the end of this project I had realized how much technologies such as computers, typewriters, pens, pencils, and paper are taken for granted everyday. Dennis Barron said “writing is first and foremost a technology” (Barron, 37). This statement is something that I agree with! I think that any way someone writes should be considered a technology.
