Personality is one of the hardest things in psychology to measure because it is not a behavior that can be observed and it is open to be interpreted by the person who is observing it in a way in which it could be perceived a different way by someone else. A person who sees another person as funny with dark humor & explicit jokes may be seen as disgusting and rude to someone else. Personality is one of those things that has multiple factors that affect the outcome of how it is measured. It seems that the fact that it can vary or alter is what makes it so complex. Handwriting is a form of communication. Employers want to use a method in which they can find out the type of person they are dealing with in a way which they can not lie or rationalize about how they are. Graphology would be perfect for this if it actually was proven to always be accurate. The study of graphology is one that is not greatly accepted in the psychological community because of its lack of numerical support. When researchers try to find correlations between a specific handwriting characteristic and a personality trait there fails to be evidence of a relationship between the two. For example, Peter Greasley writes that in graphology “a slant to the right … indicates an extroverted, outward-going personality” thus if a person writes this way they will be an ideal employee, but then writes “studies have failed to support a relationship between handwriting slant and personality type”(2000). This type of failure in validity of graphology seems to be common in multiple articles on the subject. If correlations and patterns are not evident handwriting can not be proven to predict
