Graffiti IS art

Have you ever encountered graffiti art on the street? The mayor of Seattle is inviting the public to join in the debate if graffiti is art or vandalism. Graffiti is obviously art because it is creative, takes skill and planning to create, and it sends a message. On the other hand, some people may think that graffiti is vandalism because tagging is less planned, illegal, and its hurried so it looks messy and less thoughtful.

The first reason I think graffiti is Art, is that it is creative. For example, in article A, Is Graffiti Art? It states, "there are bigger, more accomplished examples that appear on larger spaces such as walls. These are often multicolored, and complex in design." This shows that graffiti is creative, and it requires time, and effort. This therefore proves that graffiti is creative, because it is visibly unique. Another example is in image #2 where it shows a mural that is unique and very detailed, it is not just a tag, it is artwork, that took creativity to make. This shows that it is a process that requires creativity to make it unique and beautiful. Graffiti is an art because it requires creativity and it is unique to the artist's personal style, as well as any message they are trying to send.

Everyone should see graffiti as an art because it contributes to the public good in one way or another, even if we are not aware of it. Graffiti can make a neighborhood more colorful, therefore making it more enjoyable. Graffiti is undeniably art, it just might not be the type of art people are used to. Graffiti has been seen as Vandalism for too long, it is time for the public to accept it as a part of our culture, that adds color, creativity, and artistic
