These are the attempts to control the people throughout the "history" that is represented in these texts. The government goes to extreme lengths to control the people under them, they use various excuses like, "equality" and "protecting their futures" when they are actually controlling everything. The texts Uglies by Scott Westerfield and Rabbit Proof Fence by Phillip Noyce, shows how far the government will go to provide them the ultimate power, absolute control. Although the two governments have very different methods, they are both restricting the people's freedoms. Dr Cable, controls the people's lives from behind the scenes. The special circumstances ensure that their lives are controlled by the secret lesions that are placed on the brain when their bones are "ground down to the right shape" and their "skin sanded off" in the operation. The government is using the lesions to set out the futures of the people, limiting or enhancing their physical and mental abilities, so that they can "make people equal". Only a few jobs are needed, meaning the government only needs to check that minor, and all of the necessities in life are supplied, meaning the people don't need to do much.
