The book The Good Nurse : A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder by Charles Graeber is a perfect example of a crime that went too far. Charlie Cullen was a man who throughout his life experienced many terrible events that most people would never experience in their own a lifetime. From a broken household to a divorce to being arrested for being a serial-killer, Charlie is an example of how life can lead to criminal behaviors. So wondering why Charlie is called a “good nurse” can be confusing, the reason behind this is because of how well school payed of and helped excel the future career he attained. He was so good a being a nurse by taking extra hours (graveyard shift) and having a perfect record, it is hard to realize he was capable of murder. The theory that would best explain the reasoning behind Charlie Cullen’s criminal behavior is psychological theory because of social and developmental factors such as family, and the relationships he has with people especially women. Throughout the book, many of the situations that Charlie Cullen placed himself in showed how his personality has changed throughout time. Throughout this book there were many loopholes that could have been explained more, but Charlie Cullen was labeled, “The Angel of Death” and killed about 40 or more of the patients that were in his care. When he told his confession he tried to manipulate the press by portraying himself as a compassionate nurse just trying to take his patients out of their pain, but authorities knew what he really did.
