I have been looking forward to today's round of golf with my two good friends, Geoffrey and Douglas. This will be my first opportunity to see Douglas in quite some time. His work has him dashing off to some far corner of the globe, on aviation business and he is hardly ever home here in London these days. Where, on the other hand, I see Geoffrey fairly regularly, as he runs the Reading Aero Club. When I find time to spare, away from the office, I slip over to Reading on a Saturday afternoon for a fly. This morning, the Weatherman had predicted a fine sunny morning with the possibility of afternoon showers. The time was just after 8.30am. As I turned into the Ascot club carpark and was in the process of taking my golf clubs out of …show more content…
"Well, I say, I certainly did not expect to see you here this morning." My tone of voice revealed my surprise. "Well, I gave your words some thought last night, that if I intended to play a round or two while in England, I would need a golf club member to sign me in. So, here I am this morning, hoping you will do just that for me. Maybe, if your companions do not mind my company, I could play a round with you." "Well, I must say, under the circumstances, you being a visitor and all, it is the least I can do for Anglo-Swedish relations." The Taxi Driver took out a set of golf clubs. She paid him and he drove …show more content…
Douglas greeted me: "Hey, hey! It is Harry Day!" Extending his hand, as I joined the group. "Good to see you, Dougie. It has been quite a while since we last caught up." "Yes, Harry, it is amazing just how time flies. By the way, how is your new job working out?" "Any office work could be described as hum drum!" "That office job of yours can't be as bad as you first thought. I say ol' boy, I have been hearing about your after-hours lifestyle of nightclubbing with beautiful women." "Speaking of beautiful women, I say, do you chaps mind if one joins us for our round this morning?" "Not at all, ol' boy. Geoffrey's been telling me about your new lady friend. I say, she sounds rather 'special'." Geoffrey mused. "How fortunate it is that Kitty plays golf." "She doesn't." I replied. "Oh, is she just coming along for the exercise then?" Geoffrey asked. He stopped, almost in the middle of his sentence, as Greta and her caddie walked over to join the group. I must admit, she looked rather pert in that tight-fitting jumper she wore. Before I had a chance to introduce her, Greta took the liberty of introducing
Golf is the ultimate battle between man and nature. It is a beautiful sport in which dreams come true and hearts are broken. Man is challenged on every stroke by nature’s elements. Wind and rain are only a few of the conditions that affect this great game. Undulating hills, sand bunkers, thick rough, and even creeks and ponds come into play on most golf courses. These features are fierce at Augusta National Golf Course. Located along the fall line, the natural beauty of the region is the perfect complement to this championship golf course. Every spring when the flowers are in full bloom, Augusta plays host to The Masters Championship and is transformed into the Mecca of Golf.
It was spring that day, a differnt spring from this one. The poplar bluffs had budded with sticky leaves, and the forgs had come back to te sloughs and sang like choruses of angels with sore throats, an th mars marigolds were opening like shavings of sun on the brown river where the dadpoles danced and the bloodsuckers lay slimy and low, waiting fo the boy's feet. And i rode int blacke-topped buggy beside the man who was no my mate. (p. 50)
I knew it would happen. As much as I tried to stay optimistic, to put off my feelings of suspicion to an old man's negativity, I knew that this case would cost me something more than just my reputation in the town and that didn't even really matter. In Maycomb, reputation is a day by day concept. Sure, we have more than enough of our fair share of immovable gossipers, and drama kings and queens looking for a story to spread. But in everyone's own mind, if you did something stupid, immoral, or just mildly humorous or entertaining, it was the talk of the town and you were judged terribly for a few days, a few weeks tops. Then the whispers, and glances faded to conversations over coffee, and deep inside jokes. My reputation didn't bother me one bit.
As what many claim to be the most important and most exciting golf tournament of the year approaches, it is fascinating to reminisce on the history.
I guess it started when I was about twelve years old. My father took me to this place called a golf course. I did not know why or what we were here for, but I was interested in finding out. We entered a building called a clubhouse; then, he paid for a bucket of practice balls. I followed him to the driving range. Once we got there, he got a metal stick from his golf bag and gave it to me. I grabbed the stick, and he showed me how to hold it. Then, he told me to swing it. I swung it back and forth as careless as I could. He then said, "Son, you have one of the nicest golf swings I have ever seen." I did not even know what I was doing with that stick, but I guess my dad saw something I didn't. My father then decided that he was ready to teach me how to use the three clubs of golf: a putter, iron, and wood. He handed me the putter, and we went to the green. He explained to me that a putter is used on a green to get the ball into the hole. I took a few smooth swings back and forth to get a feel for a putter. He said, "Hit this ball until it goes into the hole." I was impressed with myself because it only took me six hits to get it in the hole. He laid twenty balls on the green, and he told me to hit every ball in with one shot. It took me about three hours, but I accomplished what my dad told me. He thought I was ready to try the next club, so we headed to the next location. We went out onto the fairway, and he handed me an iron. He laid out some more balls on the ground and told me to hit them towards the flag on the green. The first ball I hit did not even get close to the green. The rest of the balls I hit went either over or on the front of the green, but I never let another one fall short. My dad said, "Keep practicing until you hit all of the balls on the green." I kept practicing until all of the balls were laid up around the flag.
Ever since I was a little kid, golf has been there. Golf has been something in my life that I can always fall back on and use to get some anger out of just to clear my head. No matter what it was, golf has been my rock. There is nothing like waking up at the crack of dawn to get out under the sun to play a game you love.
Playing golf encompasses many ups and downs, excitement and frustration, and an abundance of fun when things go right. Golf is a game with so many different emotions that constantly change and play with countless minds in menacing ways. Motivation is the key to success, brought by successful moments that cause excitement. Those moments keep me returning to the course, continuing to make mistakes, but always learning more about the puzzling language. Over several years, I have been able to learn the secondary Discourse of golf by learning about the golf swing, learning terminology, principles of the sport, and through my experiences.
Golf is a sport that has been on the rise in popularity since the early 1900’s. The early years of golf was on a membership basis, only men of noble birth and privileged high class were able to be members. The stereotype of this “gentlemen’s sport” as a rich white man’s game has changed since the introduction of public courses in the US, and with women of the LPGA offering role models for young girls. More and more public courses are opening around the world, and the cost of the sport is readily available for the general public. Golf was once a game for “gentlemen”, now it is the middle class that is taking over the sport.
According to sports, golf become more popular in our society, many people are practice it and other play golf as a hobby. This research will be about golf and the negative affect that cause to society in past or even today. Golfing aims a lot of discrimination among women, it provided racism and the cost of this sport creates tension between social classes.

Many great golf players use golf psychology to help them win major tournaments. They knew they were very talented, but needed to score a little bit better and become more consistent to achieve an elite level. Buying more expensive equipment was not the secret and neither was practicing to the point of sheer exhaustion. It has to do with the proven scientific discipline of psychology and changing your way of thinking. It helps you over come the pressure associated with tournament play and coping with a constant barrage of questions from fans and the media. It only takes a short time to change your thinking so you can start winning.
Golf has gone down a long road to get to the widely popular sport it is today. Golf is a sport where the player uses a long shafted club to propel a small, hard ball around a large area of land known as a course, using as little strokes as possible. Par is the number of strokes a first-class player should normally require for a particular hole or course. There are many different parts to a golf swing such as: grip, stance, swing, and position. There are two basic golf clubs: irons and woods. Golf became a pastime in Great Britain in the 17th century and spread to all around the World. King James II’s Act of parliament banning golf from Scotland because it was a distraction to archery lessons and military training, was the first written evidence that golf ever existed. People still played golf at the time, even though it was
There is nothing worse than swinging a golf club and feeling the golf club slipping through your hands, because if that happens you're almost guaranteed a terrible shot. And unless you're Tiger Woods it's very hard to stop the swing when you're half way down to the ball. I have no idea how Tiger does that! Anyway, if the weather is very hot and humid the chances of your grip slipping as you're swinging goes way up.
Due to the nature of the game of golf, self-talk is a major practical psychological component that is beneficial for golfers to use. The average round of golf takes about four hours, but only about two minutes is actually spent swinging the golf club. Thus, there is a substantial amount of time that can be implemented for “inner time”. During a round of golf, golfers give themselves hundreds if not thousands of suggestions using self-talk (King, 2002). This is when a golfer may dig into his or her conscious and subconscious thoughts. In other words it is beneficial for golfers to use self-talk. Instances throughout the golf game in which self-talk may be useful include when a player is walking from hole to hole, approaching the ball, viewing the angle, and post shots. Self-talk in these cases allow the player to think about what he or she may implement or improve on in his or her next shot. In turn, the golfer’s game should improve if positive self-talk techniques are applied to the golf game.
Oh boy, was I ever furious! I was cursing up a storm! “Damn ball! Where the hell did it think it was going? Who the hell ever let me learn how to golf? They obviously were one damn stupid bastard to think I could ever golf!” I briskly stormed away from the tee-box, enraged that my ball was completely out of control as it had flown through the air a few minutes earlier. “Just go damnit! Hit your fricken ball!” I sounded like a small pathetic child yelling at her mother because she had not gotten her way in an argument as I screamed angrily at my brother who was now standing on the tee-box ready to send his ball to the ends of the earth.
