Having an education is a fundamental human right. Unfortunately, people in need have less chances of receiving an education, while many Texan students take that valuable opportunity for granted. Today’s students give priority to the unimportant things, instead of planning for a successful future. Education can open many doors that dejectedly people choose to close every day. Going to school involves responsibilities, and students fail to meet them by not bringing their own supplies and lacking focus. Instead, they take makeup, earphones, and phone chargers; things that should obviously be left at home. Their devoted attention is emphasized on whatever is trending in social media or school gossip. School is an institution to receive instruction,
Only a quarter of Texans have earned a bachelor’s degree, or more, in cities with a population of ten thousand people who are twenty five years old and older. For example, San Antonio with a population of eight-hundred twenty-seven thousand, one hundred ninety-three adults over the age of twenty=five had twenty-four percent that had obtained a Bachelor’s degree on more. This shows how the education crisis is poorly paid attention to. People always think of Texan’s education poorly because they don’t think of a way to resolve and put an end to this type of crisis. One main cause of student’s education is on the fact that most of the families in the south are in need for money. A way to improve this plot, is to improve the salaries in Texas for the lower-class. Cheap labor also contributes greatly making it harder for families to support their children on school necessities. School financing, being a huge factor, students’ chance for success in their
Do you think its fair that players are credited for what they do, when cheating the game? Mark McGwire excelled at the game of baseball and got credit for all of his accomplishments, yet he cheated the game and used steroids. Babe Ruth, considered one of the greatest baseball players to play the game of baseball, who never cheated and set a great example for all who play baseball. Baseball has drastically changed over the years, especially in the cheating scandals of steroids; Babe Ruth set a great example by excelling in the sport and doing it clean, contrasting with Mark McGwire. Their existence shows how society accepted honesty and doing it the clean way in Babe’s era and how society accepts the scandals and dishonesty of Mark’s era.
Achieving the best education is a rewarding accomplishment for many students, especially for minority groups. It allows the individuals to pursue careers they love and be financially secure. But not everyone has been able to receive the best education possible . Throughout history Chicanos had to face inequality in the education system. They have been segregated, tracked, and denied culturally relevant programs. These problems have driven Mexican American student to fight for education rights with protests and lawsuits. Even though Chicanos have continued to struggle for many years, no progress has been made in the American education system. To this day, Chicanos continue to struggle with inequality in the education system such as the concerns with the increase dropout rates of no English speakers.
Mary Wollstonecraft, a women’s rights advocate in the year 1792 summed it up perfectly when she said, “I do not wish them [women] to have power over men; but over themselves.” She is describing the fight within every woman in the Feminist Movement that began in the 1700’s and extended throughout the late 20th century. This powerful motion was a drive to address the debated issues of reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, women’s suffrage, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. As time has passed, feminists have pushed extremely hard to gain equal rights and respect from their male counterparts. Unfortunately in today’s world, society still puts an emphasis on a women’s exterior beauty. They emphasize it in magazines, television commercials, and even the infamous beauty pageant. The industry of beauty pageants is growing rapidly, jeopardizing the continuous work of many women’s rights advocates, throwing away the continuing efforts for equal rights (Miss America, 2011).
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.
James Baldwin’s works were influenced by the times in which he lived, as an African American writer he strove for equality and used his pen to work for civil rights through elements of his childhood among other aspects.
Jobs are scarce for people without higher education levels. Positions that required a high school diploma have shifted to crave a bachelor’s degree. In order to prepare children for the future, education must be a priority in every state. According to the American College Test (ACT), Florida students averaged 19.6 out of 36 which is lower than the national average of 21. Furthermore, the testing administrator says “only 19% of Florida students tested as college ready, compared to about a quarter of students nationally (Benk, 2013).” Florida taxpayers pay the burden when children go to college unprepared in need of remedial classes. Student loans are more prevalent to pay for these classes, but the extra burden of taking remedial classes also affects them in the long-run.
396). Even with the effort from legislators, Texas “[remains] low compared with those in other states.” Changes in education sometimes take much longer to display noticeable improvements, or lack thereof. A decision from lack of funding might not be apparent until 10 years from now, when students are integrated into the work force. Education has the potential to solve many of our nation’s problems, but reducing funding opposes what we as a nation are trying to accomplish. In the short term, the state saves money, but in the future, the state could possibly expect to pay more when we effectively fail to properly teach students. Education should be seen as an investment for the
Most scientists agree that humans are contributing to global warming effects around the world. The existence of the polar ice caps and the rate at which they are melting are threatened by global warming. This threat is leading scientists to use geothermal energy in our everyday lives in hopes of preserving the polar ice caps. In order for people to thinking about helping to preserve them, they need to understand polar ice caps. Because polar ice caps are melting, there are many issues occurring in our world such as natural disasters. People are impacting the melting of the ice caps but, the ice caps are also impacting people as well. One alternative to using fossil fuels is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy can change the way we use resources from the earth forever, and potentially slow the rate of global warming.
The greatest woman I’ve ever known always told me that education was important…and she was right. I came from a small town in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri prior to becoming a teenager. At the time, education was abundant in St. Ann, where I lived. I attended a decent elementary school and made good grades, despite mathematics not being my cup of tea. I have
How do we expect students to brave the troubles of reality if we have not first equipped them with the tools of education? All Americans are entitled to a free and equal public education. This is a core American idea, and our Founders believed it was a right of all citizens. Ben Franklin once said, “an investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” Nothing does greater good for any society than educating its citizens. In this regard, we have failed—profoundly.
We see students learning in movies as well as television shows. We also learn ourselves by experiences. The movie Dangerous Minds is movie about the educational system and an ex-Marine. In the movie LouAnne, “finds herself confronted with a classroom of tough, sullen teenagers, all from lower-class and underprivileged backgrounds, involved in gang warfare and drug pushing, flatly refusing to engage with anything”(Smith). These students are under privileged in many was that do not involve school, but they are not in the best environment to learn. The teacher finds a way to connect to the kids to be able to keep her students engaged in the curriculum that is standard for all students. Not all teachers or educational employees are able to keep their students engaged on the top at hand without technology and other resources at hand. The lack of money because of budget cuts in school districts across the country students are learning less and not getting the supplies and the course they desire. This then leads to the loss of interests in school. School is a healthy place for kids and young adults to learn and be social. But all though students are healthy in the social aspect or most of them anyways, students are not healthy in their everyday diets. Students at high school and even at elementary level have parents that struggle to get by. Students rely on many things that the school supplies such as cheap lunches and classroom
A parent of a student wants to be able to drop their child off at school every day without worrying about the safety of their child. A school must make sure, at all times, that a child is safe from physical and mental harm. If a student feels that they are not going to be safe at school, they won't want to come to school. A student's attendance is very important if they want to be able to get into a good college, or if even if they want to graduate on time. Not only will the student attend school more often, but they will attend school feeling less stressed. Being bullied or worrying about whether someone is going to harm you in any way can put a lot of stress on an adolescent and on the parent. The parent should not be worrying about if their child's safety is at risk. Soon enough, if the school is careless and doesn't pay much attention
We all know that some kids have difficulty doing homework, either because they don’t know it or they just don’t want to do it. Some of the kids at this school they do the homework, but when they do it they stay up all night. So when they go to school the next day they don’t want to do anything, or they sleep during class. When they sleep during class the teachers get mad at them. When the teachers yell at their students because they are not paying attention in class. Students should be learning in school, and giving your mind a break. When we get home from school all we want to do is either eat or go on Netflix and YouTube.
To a kid, “back to school” signals the end of summer fun and a return to strict rules and schedules--and worse, homework. (UGH!) To a parent, it can mean freedom; not having to drive a “bored” whiner from one activity to the next, or worry about where a teen is hanging out or what they might be up to. For the drained parent, those three words offer a Hallelujah! ray of light at the end of a ten-week-long tunnel. (Finally! A chance to breathe and regain some sanity!)
