Movie Critic- Battle of Fredericksburg- Gods and Generals After watching the movie, Gods and Generals, I have have mixed emotions. In the movie, the acting was pretty horrible, especially the death scenes. During the battle, if you really watched the men when they got shot, most of them just got on their knees and ducked out of frame. It was obvious that all of the minor role actors had no real acting background. I feel as if they could have done a better job with casting the actors. The actor that played General Hood looked way to old. Realistically, General Hood supposed to be around 30 years old, he was one of the more younger generals. But, the actor that played him looked very old and had a long gray beard. In contrast, I feel as if
In basketball, the National Championship game is the dream of every kid that plays basketball in college. NC State’s basketball team wasn’t well known in 1983. Jim Valvano was the coach and he knew he had a great group of kids. When they won the ACC tournament against the great Ralph Sampson and Virginia, people thought that the win was just luck and they probably wouldn’t make last when they got into the tournament. Throughout the tournament, NC State kept surviving and advancing. In Johnathan Hock’s documentary “Survive and Advance”, Hock uses stock footage of the games that were played during the tournament, different points of view from the players, and the sequence of the documentary to prove that NC State’s basketball team were the underdogs during the whole tournament; however they were able to win despite their adversity
Nicole Hendricks USP 107 Final IDs Professor James Ingram. “Empire Strikes Back” Mayors Source: Lecture 18 Meaning: An “Empire Strikes Back” mayor refers to the white republican mayor that often times comes into office following a minority mayor. In cases such as the “Empire Strikes Back” mayor, the minority mayor has failed to hold forth to the issues that he intended to solve upon being elected. The minority mayor was elected in order to improve racial tensions. Yet, the minority mayor must somewhat “dilute” his stance in order to appeal to multiple ethnicities, rather than just his.
Their acting chops were very impressive whether it was comedic, emotional, or just stunning overall. Yet, on the other hand, some minor characters weren’t as well heard as others. I feel as the play could be better if some of the minor characters had projected their voice more, allowing their character to be known. However, although some voices were much stronger than others, all actors were full of talent, capable of dealing with script’s requirements, and did a good job
Glory is an American War film produced in 1989. The movie is about the first all-African-American regiment to be a part of the Union Army during the American Civil War. It is based upon letters written by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, who was the commanding officer in charge of the first African America regiment. The regiment was known as the 54th Massachusetts, and it is famous for the heroic actions that took place during the Battle of Fort Wagner, where Colonel Shaw volunteered his men to lead the charge. Although there were many casualties and the battle was not successful, the 54th Massachusetts’ bravery led the Union to accept thousands of African American men into their ranks which helped the Union win the war. In many parts of the film,
Being a United States History major, the choice for this movie review was simply a no brainer. For this paper I have chosen to review the Civil War based movie named Glory. The movie was released in 1989, just after the centennial of the Civil War ending. Glory was innovative, due to the fact that not many movies portrayed how the blacks were important to the North winning the war against the South. The movie had an all-star cast that consisted of Matthew Broderick as Col. Robert Shaw, Denzel Washington as Pvt Trip, and Morgan Freeman as Sgt Major John Rawlins (IMDB.com). Before critically reviewing this wonderful movie, I only watched the movie for the significance of it being about our nation’s history and war. As I critically watched
Movies don’t always portait characters correctly. For the most part, the characters will have important details in their life taken out for the sake of entertainment. The Patriot, while an amazing movie, did have a few major inaccuracies. Benjamin Martin, William Tavington, and Jean Villeneuve were all based off of real people from the war. While they were portrait pretty accurately, there were some major differences between the movie and real life.
In the world today, the globalization process happen around the world and people come together to exchange the culture, information, technology, education and knowledge, however; another side of society always try to ignore other people with different color by violent, the unawareness, and their behavior. Racial discrimination occurs in the world mainly in this area which is stereotypes, unfamiliarity, egotism, and education. The three films I had analyst on American History X, Remember the Titans and The Blind Side showed, everyone is constantly fighting to be better than their neighbor, and the skin-color stratification is just another excuse to look down on them. Many Americans think of racism as something of the past, something back when
Defiance is a movie based on a true story of four Polish Jewish Bielski brothers that were trying to survive from Nazi Army during World War II. The movie started with Hitler ordering his army to kill Poland’s Jewish Citizen. During that time, the Polish Police worked closely with Nazis and they gave the whereabout of Bielski’s location. The Nazis successful found and murdered the parents of Bielski brothers. After this event, the two older brothers, Tuvia and Zus, took the two younger siblings, Aasel and Aron, in Belorussian forest to hide and find a shelter. While they were settling in the forest, they invited several other Jews who are escaping from Nazis and create a little community in the forest. As a result, group norms were formed
The Bad and The Beautiful (1952) and State and Main (2000) are films within films that unmask Hollywood Cinema as a dream factory and expose the grotesque, veneer hidden by the luxury of stars. The Bad and the Beautiful, directed by Vincent Minnelli, is a black and white film narrated in flashback form. The films theatrical nature requires more close-ups than wide-screen shots to capture the character’s psychological turmoil. For example, Fred and Jonathan’s car ride is captured in a close-up to signify their friendship; however their relationship deteriorates after Jonathan’s deceit. While the camera zooms out, Fred stands alone motionless. Here, Fred is captured from a distance at eye-level and he becomes ostracized by the film industry and
We Were Soldiers is a very intense movie although, I think the movie cannot be described in only one word. The movie is heartbreaking, intense, goory, melancholic but it also gives one a great deal of pride. I really did enjoy the movie a lot, I usually do not watch movies especially not documentaries or history movies, and however, I really enjoyed this one. I liked it because I think it demonstrates what war is really like. It made me feel sad after I was done watching it because it was so realistic. No one in my family has been in the military therefore, I don’t think I realized how hard it is for the families and I still do not think I fully understand what family and friends feel as their loved ones go overseas. Some soldiers did not have families to come back to, however, they were still there fighting
When American Sniper opened in theaters January 2015, the world was shocked and excited that a film about a war has finally shown the emotional and psychological pain a soldier goes through. To many this was a new concept but, what the public did not realize, was in 2014, a World War II film, Fury was released. Fury is an insightful film about a tank crew surviving through World War II through the emotional and psychological hardships. The film takes place in April 1945, five months before WWII ends (Fury, IMDb). There are many key points to which makes Fury a modern war film from the extent of backstory each character has, to the prescreening prep and training, to the research of the props. Though American Sniper and Fury differ in wars and
The movie I chose to analyze for historical accuracy was War Horse. This movie was set in the First World War, starting in Britain but the story also explored France and Germany during this time period as well. Three scenes will be analyzed: the trench warfare scene between the British and the Germans, the scene where the British soldiers were gassed, and the scene where the British were getting patched up and nursed. War Horse does well to stick to the historical accuracy of what happened during the First World War due to the fact that the three scenes that I have chosen to analyze are not embellished and are close to what really happened.
The Patriot takes place in Charleston, South Carolina in the 1770’s. This movie focuses on a family and a militia during the Revolutionary War. The start of the movie introduces a family living on a farm. Benjamin, the father, goes to a meeting about the potential war with the British. His son, whom also went to the meeting, signs up to be in the war, after a vote in favor of the war. Next, we see Gabriel in the war, and his family at their residence. Gabriel comes back home to seek refuge from a nearby battle. His family cares for the soldiers wounded, on both sides of the battle. Soon, a Calvary of the British forces orders the death of all the American troops, and the burning of Benjamin’s house. The British take Gabriel to be hanged, and as they
While watching the movie “The Book Of Eli” it became abundantly clear that the movie was based upon the struggles of a man with a Christian world view. The movie follows the path of the main character, Eli, through his struggle to get the Bible into safe hands so that all may have the words of God once more. Throughout this movie we are able to see: the Christian worldview, Eli's struggle with his faith and worldview, and our own faith throwing questions of right and wrong (good vs evil) at us.
The movie itself was a great movie. It followed the storyline of Exodus and it felt like it stayed true to the book. After a closer look at Exodus, you see that there were some added plot lines to the movie and some detail is inadequate. The stories of Datham and Nefreteri do take away some meaning. These don’t help the cause to show the strong power of God.
