P: Good morning, I am Priyanka Patel
M: And I am Mariam Jaliawala. We did our topic on the impact of oceans from glaciers melting and sea level changes.
P: In the past, it was called Ice Age...Now it’s Water Age!
P: Ok, so why are glaciers even important? Since glaciers are just freshwater that is frozen, they can provide people that live near glaciers with a water source. They can used for drinking water or to bathe in. They can also be used for irrigating crops and water for hydroelectric plants. They help us see the climate change and global warming changes. They also homes for penguins, polar bears, and other rare and endangered species. They are sources of water for industries and agriculture. Glaciers are the source for cold ocean currents and glacier melting can change ocean current circulation and affects life forms dramatically.

M: What is glacier melting? Glacier melting is a major concern for us as humans because it can contribute to sea level rises. The increase in temperatures or global warming can cause glaciers to melt faster than …show more content…

Buildings and houses in coastal areas that are low can be flooded from the sea level rising and even submerged..The sea level rising can cause harm to the environment in coastal wetlands including the habitat. Human caused global warming has caused 3 inches of sea level rise since 1992 and some places it has even been 9 inches. Two third of the sea level rising is caused by expansion of warmer ocean waters and only one third comes from the glaciers and ice sheets melting. As you can see in the chart right here, you can see that the annual global air temperature increasing has resulted in the trend of sea level rising. In 1960, the temperature was low and so there was no sea level change but as the years go on you can see that the temperature increases, and so does the seal level. By 2010, it has almost reached
