The speeches “I have a Dream” and “Gettysburg Address” was written and told by the most important men in history; Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. These significant men, even though wrote and presented their speeches almost a hundred years apart, both had similar ideas in mind when dealing with the country’s issues; Liberty, Integrity and Equality for not only African-Americans but for the nation as a whole. Martin Luther king Jr. and Abraham Lincoln had very similar ways of thinking. One point that both Martin and Abraham talked about and wanted in the nation was Liberty. Liberty is freedom from captivity, confinement or physical restraint. According to “I have a dream” Martin stated “ This note was the promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and repeated in his speech “let freedom ring”. Abraham’s speech “Gettysburg Address” included that “our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation: conceived in liberty...” . These two men saw that the country was progressing in wrong way, they obviously strives to one day have liberty and peace. Martin and Abraham
Both speakers included Liberty because king and Lincoln wanted peace and freedom. Integrity meant unity sticking by each other to become whole something the people of the country wasn’t doing which was leading to confusion and conflict. Equality was another issue that wasn’t being taken seriously, blacks didn’t have every rights and opportunities like the other race segregation/separation was a damaging the rights of every race other than white.
