Getting “Medicated”
In the United States Marijuana is proposed in a negative way. Many people think just because marijuana is not legal, that it is bad for you. People think that since alcohol and tobacco use is legal that it is better than using marijuana. Almost six million people die from tobacco use and 2.5 million from abusing the use of alcohol each year worldwide. Tobacco has many harmful chemicals that can cause lung cancer. Marijuana has one chemical Tetrahydrocannabinol, but cigarettes have twelve chemicals which all harm your body. Some people say that one “joint” is equal to ten cigarettes. The fatality count from the use of marijuana is zero. No one has ever died from the use of marijuana. Although the legalization of marijuana

My dad has been a user of marijuana for a long time, and has said it can become addicting to be relieved of pain every time you use marijuana. He would use marijuana every day when he woke up and before he went to sleep for his back pains. Just like tobacco and alcohol the use of these substances can be addicting but are very easy to overcome the addiction. Marijuana also known as “weed” is commonly used by many people all over the United States. Weed has been legal in a few states for the past couple of years and many are starting to see the positive side, but some still only see the negative side. Some negative effects of marijuana include paranoia, accelerated heartbeat and irritation in the lungs. One of the ingredients in marijuana is a mind-altering chemical called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This sometimes leads to paranoia. Just like tobacco, weed is made up of toxic chemicals such as ammonia and hydrogen cyanide. Both of these chemicals can irritate your bronchial passages and lungs. During the use of marijuana and many other drugs, increased heart rate is very common. This does put some people at risk of a heart attack but when in a good setting most people say they become …show more content…
The use of marijuana can help cure many diseases. It can helps to ease you of your pains and aches. It is also safer for our communities compared to alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana has been started to be legalized in a few states and is only the start to something bigger. The negative effects of alcohol and tobacco can not compare to the very few negative effects of marijuana. With the legalization of weed the world's population will grow because of the positive effects marijuana has on the human body. If you are a against the use of marijuana, have you ever questioned yourself why? The positive impacts it will have on people's lives all over the world is amazing. If you’re in pain, have a disease or just want to be high, marijuana is for you. Don’t be against a medicine, look to the positive side and not always the
Of course, there are many people opposed to legalizing marijuana, despite the benefits. Some doctors are against legalizing marijuana because they think that it will cause “emotionally crippled adults”, and they think that people can become addicted to it. Doctor Howard Samuels believes that marijuana is a psychoactive drug which will create problems for adults in the future. I disagree with this. It doesn’t do anything harmful to your brain, so I don’t see how it would cause problems for adults in the future that use marijuana. You can’t become addicted to it, like you can with cigarettes and alcohol. Marijuana doesn’t have nicotine in it, which causes the addiction to cigarettes. Doctors prescribe morphine to patients, and that is very addictive...
Marijuana is a drug that is harmful to a person¡¯s health. It has been found to have adverse impacts on one¡¯s mental processes such as memory, attention, judgement, and problem- solving (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2004, p.415). Also, marijuana can interfere with a person¡¯s ability to think rationally and logically. Thus, the lapse in judgement caused by the drug use can lead to risky sexual behaviours and this may result in increasing sexually transmitted disease such as AIDS. Moreover, the long-term use of marijuana may cause chronic breathing problems and cancer ...
First of all, some people feel smoking marijuana can get hyper, which providing them the emotion of happiness, and helping them to see the world from a different perspective. However, marijuana will cause a lot of healthy problems to human’s body. Marijuana has many physical effects on human such as rapid heart rate, red eyes and dry mouth. Because the chemical THC will enter into the body when people are smoking it, THC will enter through the bloodstream to the brain. The chemical affects them to feel ecstasy and unreality; therefore, THC will make them feel more confused if people smoke marijuana for a long time. According to, “ Treat marijuana abuse like a health problem” (McMillan, 2007, July 17), it shows using marijuana can cause more serious health issues on human’s body such as bronchitis, emphysema, and cancer. In addition, using marijuana has also been linked to lung damage and affects the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. For example, if marijuana ...
This article also informs us that marijuana has positive attributes as both a medicine and a recreational drug, without very many side effects. Those are just a few of the many reasons why it should be legal. In the article “Top Ten Reasons Marijuana Should Be Legal” they state that it is a scientific fact that marijuana is not toxic to humans. It is nearly impossible to overdose on marijuana, unlike other legal and illegal substances that can cause death when used for the first time in very small amounts. The writer of the article mentions how prohibition has failed to control the use and production of marijuana.
The legalization of marijuana is, and has been a heavily disputed issue for decades. On one hand, marijuana could lead to a medical breakthrough, or at least provide relief to cancer and AIDS patients. On the other hand, legalizing a drug could expose it to too broad an audience. As a drug, marijuana has never proven to be anywhere near as harmful as cigarettes or alcohol. Each year in the United States, 400,000 people die from tobacco, 50,000 from alcohol, and from marijuana, zero. Regardless of what side one may take to this argument, there are some causes to this marijuana debate that everyone should know. Marijuana was not always illegal, and the reasons behind the history of narcotic regulation are interesting when viewed from today's perspective. The history of marijuana prohibition is a story of racism, political repression, and poorly represents the qualities this country claims to embody.
The effects of marijuana are minimal. The high has a feeling of euphoria, peacefulness and well-being. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the active chemical in marijuana. It’s estimated that a person would have to ingest a dose 20,000 to 40,000 times the average dose before death would occur. In the early 1990’s sophisticated research on marijuana began. The scientists discovered THC stimulates special receptors in the brain. Researchers have now isolated a natural substance that appears to produce the same effects as THC in the brain. Recently the medical uses of marijuana are being more and more accepted, and many marijuana smokers wonder how it can be harmful if it helps/treats patients.
Marijuana or cannabis, according to the Federal Government is considered dangerous and addictive and is, therefore, placed on the controlled substance list as a schedule 1 drug, making its use and possession illegal, as well it is considered one of the worst drugs. Other more harmful drugs such as cocaine are considered schedule II drugs, so according to the U.S Government cocaine is considered less hazardous than marijuana. There have been many studies conducted by scientist proving the benefits of medical marijuana in relieving chronic pain, nausea and a full array of other ailments. The benefits of legalizing marijuana far outweigh the bad. By allowing people to possess and use marijuana for medicinal purposes, we are improving society as a whole and increasing the happiness or utility of individuals who are living with debilitating conditions in turn this would create a happier society all around.
First I will talk about some of the side effects of Marijuana. Immediate effects of smoking marijuana are minimal. A person’s heartbeat may increase by twenty to fifty beats more per minute. One’s eyes may become red, and time seems to creep by.
People should stop arguing about the use of marijuana and how marijuana is bad, because people only like to research the cons instead of including the pros. Despite the fact that people believe everything they hear, they should look up more and try to see how good marijuana can be for them. Marijuana is good for their health, and it has helped to cure people who are very ill. Marijuana is less harmful than tobacco or alcohol, there has been studies proven that people have died over drinking other than by smoking marijuana. Marijuana will be able to have less people prosecuted for the possession of carrying it around, which will help people not get arrested for a small amount of marijuana.
My dad, grandmother, and other family member suffer from lower back pain. They are on prescription pain killers. Many people who I have talked to have said that marijuana does not remove the pain it only provides a short relief. I do not know if my family members would try it due to our religion, but other in the same situation would benefit. Another pro is that it can reduce the population of inmates in the jails that are there for possession of marijuana. Our prisons are full and are a burden on tax payers when they are filled with people who have committed small crimes such as marijuana offences. With the money saved from overfilled prisons we can use in research. This leads to my last pro, legalizing marijuana can lead to better and more indebt research studies. When they laws restrict what can and cannot be studied it is not fair, in my opinion. The legalization will allow researchers to see the long term effects of marijuana between medical and recreational marijuana. The use of recreational marijuana is that one can utilize it whenever desired and in medical marijuana the user can only use it on restricted
Many people say that marijuana should not be legalized in the United States, however, another percentage of the society says that marijuana should be legalized. Those who agree and disagree need to inform themselves about the pros and cons of marijuana. It is very important to see different point of views from each side because there are several consequences and benefits that the use of marijuana can cause. Legalizing marijuana can be dangerous because many people are not informed of the diseases they can get from using drugs. In most cases people try marijuana to see how it feels and how their bodies react, but there are many who try it once and they keep on doing it very often. Marijuana should not be legalized in the United States because
As of today the nation stands behind three basic ideas of what to do with marijuana; legalize marijuana, make it legal only as a prescription drug, or keep it as it is, illegal. People, who are pro-marijuana like me, argue that marijuana is considerably less harmful than tobacco and alcohol, the most frequently used legal drugs. Furthermore marijuana has never directly caused anyone's death. People who side with the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes believe that the ends justify the means. But the people who want to keep it illegal think that the medical uses do not outweigh the harmful side effects.
Marijuana is one of the most popular drugs in the world. It is known to many people as a way to get high and just relax. Its effects on the mind and psyche appeal to many musicians and writers because it can bring their creative thoughts to new levels of depth. It is also popular as a medicinal drug to control pain and seizures. In Jamaica, weed is a popular glaucoma drug. This drug also imposes numerous negative health effects, one of which being erectile problems and reduced sperm count. Other effects include cancer, loss of memory, and euphoric effects. Marijuana also has at least four times as many toxins and cancer causing chemical as cigarettes. Though many people see it as cool or safe, marijuana definitely has is health effects that affect the human body negatively. (Effects/methodsofhealing.com)
Looking at the true facts and benefits of legalizing marijuana can help one realize that it is not a bad idea. It is widely used around the world so one could say that there is already a market for it, but it is illegal. The government can take over this market and regulate it to make billions of dollars and decrease the amount of underage smoking at the same time. Many people look at marijuana as a bad thing, but alcohol and tobacco is no better and is actually worse. One could bet that, in a few years, all states will have a market for marijuana and many other countries, if not all, will too.
People usually abuse marijuana by becoming addicted and smoking it just because instead of using it for their well-being. I went around and asked about ten people I know who have been smoking for at least five years. When I asked them if they had ever experienced memory problems, learning difficulties, trouble with problem solving and loss of muscle activity and addictive capability, they responded, “If anything, marijuana enhances my memory.” “I would not be able to learn in school if I did not smoke.” “The only problem I had, was being addicted to marijuana, but it was all in my head because when I finally stopped smoking, I had no withdrawal symptoms.” The only side effect that seemed to be accurate when asking these questions was the addictive properties. Although being addicted to marijuana mentally can be a problem, all of the many positive side effects of marijuana outweigh the one negative side effect that seems to be the most
