Leadership qualities often vary person to person based on what they believe is important to them and their values. The main leadership qualities that I look for in a strong president are, humility, confidence in the face of adversity, a strong vision for the country's future, and the ability to be a bipartisan leader. All presidents will face adversity at some point during their time in office and they need to have the confidence to react appropriately based on the information given to them at the time. On occasion new information on an issue may come to light which totally changes a situation, putting the reaction of a president in the wrong. In these moments, presidents need humility to be able to change their stance and move in the right …show more content…
Bush is very rarely looked back on positively. However, President Bush faced far more adversity during his time in office than most presidents do, which is often forgotten. President Bush dealt with the attacks on 9/11 only nine months after he was sworn into office! Faced with the now very real threat of terror in the United States, President Bush launched the war against terrorism by signing the Patriot Act. He then invaded Afghanistan to take down the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. Later in 2003, President Bush invaded Iraq to take down Sadaam Hussein, who was in league with terrorist groups. These actions were taken to protect us, the American people, and our goal of dismantling the Taliban and taking down Sadaam Hussein was achieved. To me the war waged against terrorism is definitely one of President Bush’s successes, as it showed that America would not tolerate terrorism whatsoever. However, the wars did have their faults which I will get to later. President Bush also had successes with aiding in the AIDS relief cause in Africa, reducing AIDS rates by nearly ten percent. He was also able to make significant tax cuts to all Americans, President Obama even kept the majority of these tax breaks, except for those given to the top half of a percent of …show more content…
One of his shortcomings include his failure to react promptly and effectively after Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. Public dissatisfaction with the U.S. economy and the budget deficit after fighting in two wars also lowered President Bush’s approval ratings. Then, later in his second term, he had to deal with the largest economic disaster since the great depression, the housing market crash. Many people criticized President Bush for bailing out Wall Street because of all of the corruption there; however, without the Wall Street bailout America would have most certainly gone into a second great depression. Finally, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan turned into a disaster when the U.S. tried to maintain stability through occupation, which was widely scorned by the public as most people just wanted out of the middle east. This lead to less and less troops occupying theses areas making it harder to maintain stability in these countries. This could be a factor as to why even more dangerous radical groups such as ISIS and ISIL have emerged
There are few words in the English language that are difficult to define. Successful is one of those words considering everyone has their own definition of what it truly means to be successful in life. The word successful becomes even harder to define when paired with the word President. Every President had different qualities that made them successful during their terms. These qualities would be necessary in both times of peril and in times of peace. Americans tend to have a hard time trying to find the few genuinely successful presidents among the masses. Two Presidents that were truly successful were Thomas Jefferson and Harry S. Truman. These men had such an impact on politics on both the national and global levels. Jefferson and Truman
success. In many aspects, he can be regarded as the first modern president, as he confronted and
The foreign affairs spectacle was showing Bush as the perfect president with masterful leadership skills and a powerhouse team. In the other hand the domestic spectacle display Bush as a confused leader with a colorless team. The foreign policy team was seem as cool, intelligent and worthy. What it boost the foreign policy spectacle was the Operation Desert Storm which lacked on destroying the enemy, but as military display, it provided Americans with numerous scenes to cheer. Otherwise the domestic Bush was awful, especially when it came to economics. The only economic plan he ever put forward without any problem was a cut in the capital gains tax rate that would only benefit wealthy investors. His economic team was dim, anyone notice them and barely registered in the public consciousness. He was completely disengaged from the ordinary people and
But for the majority of the country during one of our toughest times, he was what we needed. Without consulting history, it’s impossible to judge what he did very negatively. The old ways weren’t working, and while President Hoover tried to do something, it wasn’t enough. President Roosevelt was more successful with the actions he took for relief during the Great Depression. References: EyeWitness History editors.
A well- rounded leader can be flexible in any situation given to him or her. I personally feel that I possess leadership characteristics well. I do not only possess leadership qualities for myself, but also to set an example for others. By doing this I might aid them in expressing their leadership qualities, no matter their field of interest. As I help others, they might see it in themselves to aid others in finding their leadership qualities.
During the election process the American economy was in shambles and in need of utter repair. Inflation was sky rocketing as a result the value of the dollar went down. Taxes were high and overwhelming to many Americans. This was the main driving force to his success in the elections. He started his presidency by cutting taxes. This was then followed by eliminating many of the restrictions on how products
Every commander in chief of the United States is remembered for just few seminal events or moments of their presidency. Bill Clinton will forever be associated with sex scandals despite the golden economy he presided over. John F Kennedy is considered a hero because of his handling of one moment in time (the Cuban missile crisis). George W Bush is no different. Two events have ruled his time in office and I suspect they will be his legacy. I am of course talking about 9/11 and the resulting war in Iraq. Bush’s presidency has been one of extremes as he has received both the highest and lowest approval ratings since polling began, ranging 90% immediately after the September 11, 2001 attacks, to 28% in June 2008.
Leadership is something that as humans we strive to be good at. It’s a skill that can be fostered in school, homes and sports. As Americans we often turn to those in leadership positions to help us during troubling times. Many great leaders have been born out of grave tragedy, when one person can show strength, wisdom and courage we celebrate them. Our country is driven by men and women who are out into leadership roles. Congress and government have their fair share of both positive and negative leaders. One perfect example of leadership is the position of the American President. Being the leader of the free world comes with immense pressure. Throughout history we have been able to see different men take on this role. No one has ever done the job perfectly but some presidents have made a stronger imprint on our society then others. Our twenty sixth president, Theodore Roosevelt, is one of those presidents, despite hardships and tragedies his passion for a better America was his motivation to fight for the country he loved.
Despite the unpopular opinions of his foreign policies, his domestic policies greatly benefited the American people. His actions towards change for the Civil Rights Movement, War on Poverty and the environment has had great impact on the Unites States then and till this day.
George H. W. Bush became the 41st president of the United States of America on January 20, 1989 by succeeding Ronald Reagan. He promised Americans that there would be no new taxes. In his Inaugural Address, he pledged in "a moment rich with promise" to use American strength as "a force for good." During his presidency he passed many bills such as the Clean Air Act which focused on the things like reducing urban smog, and curbing acid rain. The other act was the Disabilities Act, which makes it illegal for employers and employees to discriminate against the disabled.
During President Clinton’s presidency he had many successes and failures domestically and foreign like the success of Clinton’s welfare-reform bill and his North American Free Trade Agreement or the failure of his health care plan and the refusal to sign an agreement to end a hazardous problem of landmines. However, President Clinton was impeached and not convicted because many people did not believe it was true and it was only a target of Republican zealots. In the year 2050, I think that historians will rank President Clinton a mediocre president because he had many failures during his presidency and the impeachment scandal under his belt as well. Clinton was pretty successful in his domestic policy, but he did have some failures that caused
When Mr. Trump speaks, people listen. He is able to articulate and sell his ideas to you. He has had to do a lot of wheeling and dealing trying to acquire real estate, thus being able to persuade people by simply speaking is essential. Ability to Solve Problems Problem solving is another characteristic of effective leaders. You have to be able to take care of situations when they arise.
In my opinion, being a good leader firstly he should be able to take full advantage of favorable circumstance, able to rule the country under a chaotic situation. Besides he made attractive promises to gain popular support, skilled in using of propaganda, amoral. Moreover he should have the organizational ability and has the ambition to make his country powerful in the world. In addition, he could use his words to twist and manipulate the minds of people into believing that what he was saying. Using this power, he could get people to do anything for him, which prove his amorality. He should be skillful in carry out successful policy to bring the country to economic prospect, since economy is very important to a country.
There are many different qualities people believe a president should contain. For centuries the United States has gone through their fair share of good presidents, and bad ones. Presidential qualities make up whether a president was considered a good leader, or a not so good leader. The three presidential qualities I believe every president should contain are, a strong vision, strong leadership, and has to be a public servant. Many presidents in the past did not have a strong vision and this is why I believe they failed at their presidency.
