Genocide: One of the most atrocious acts committed by man. Nelson Mandela once said, “I say to all those leaders: Do not look the other way, do not hesitate ... It is within your power to prevent a genocide.” While focusing on our domestic issues, the US should also side with the UN to help cease genocide. Without delay, these justifications support what the US should do when it comes to genocide.

Genocide is a pressing issue with a multitude of questions and debates surrounding it. It is the opinion of many people that the United Nations should not get involved with or try to stop ongoing genocide because of costs or impositions on the rights of a country, but what about the rights of an individual? The UN should get involved in human rights crimes that may lead to genocide to prevent millions of deaths, save money on humanitarian aid and clean up, and fulfill their responsibilities to stop such crimes. It is preferable to stop genocide before it occurs through diplomacy, but if necessary, military force may be used as a last resort. Navi Pillay, Human Rights High Commissioner, stated, “Concerted efforts by the international community at critical moments in time could prevent the escalation of violence into genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity or ethnic cleansing.”
Genocide is a huge problem in today’s society. While there are laws set down to handle cases where genocide occurs, the idea and premise of genocide and all that it entails is still widely debatable. It’s difficult to put a label and definition on a term that, while it has a long history of existence, is very rare and unknown to the common man. When I say rare, genocide only occurs in very extreme cases and situations, but it doesn’t make it any less of a horrible crime.
I think a big impact on the life of Jews would be their belief in God
The horrible events that occurred in the Guatemalan Genocide should serve as an example to the rest of the world. The Genocide is partly the result of greediness, which is shown by the actions of the United States in protecting the United Fruit Company. The oppression of the Mayan people was completely unecessary and lead to their mass murder. With characteristics such as greed and prejudice, the world will never be able to advance. It will be stuck in a state of barbaric actions. Events such as the Guatemalan Genocide cannot be permitted to happen again.

Many times we ask why nobody did anything to stop such horrific events from happening. Actually, many people said that this would never happen again but this is not the case. Since the Holocaust we have seen several examples of how the general public sometimes refuses to acknowledge the occurrence of events and how the government often has little political will to stop mass murders until it is too late. One example of this that occurred not too long ago is the Rwandan Genocide. In 1994, between half a million to a million Rwandan Tutsi as well as thousands of moderate Hutu, were exterminated in the clearest mass murder case since the Holocaust. The world stood back and observed as the murders took place. Samantha Power, in the book she wrote, A Problem From Hell: America and the Age of Genocide1,and her article The Atlantic Monthly, “Bystanders to Genocide: Why the United States Let the Rwandan Tragedy Happen,” Power writes “The story of U.S. policy during the genocide in Rwanda is not a story of willful complicity with evil. U.S. officials did not sit around and conspire to allow genocide to happen. But whatever their convictions about ‘never again,’ many of them did sit around, and they most certainly did allow genocide to happen.”2 Samantha Power's writing shows that the U.S. government knew enough about the genocide through early warnings but nevertheless because they lacked political will to do anything about it they passed up many opportunities to end the rain of terror.3
It was October 6, 1998 when he was lured from the bar that cold, fateful night. His skull was smashed with a pistol butt as he was lashed to a fence, left for dead in near freezing temperatures. Nearly eighteen hours later he was found by passersby and taken to a hospital where he remained in a coma for several days until slowly slipping away. At his funeral, picketers carried signs saying, "God Hates Fags" and "Fags Deserve to Die."
If you are a person like myself, when you think of an abortion your heart melt. I always heard stories of abortions and the affects it can have on your body. You might think to yourself, why do people do such a thing. I remember how I use to feel so distress about abortions. I couldn’t not understand why people would want to harm an innocent child. At the end of the day we never know what someone is going through. However, I do believe in free will and living for you. Therefore, I would have to agree with pro- life (which agrees that everyone deserves a chance at life) for you have many options of birth control, adoption available and every fetus should have the right to life.
Good evening, my fellow educators and peers. How many of you struggle from oppression in your daily lives? Today I come to discuss the rights and freedoms that will alleviate oppression and benefit this nation and, specifically, the minorities of this community. During the past few years, all we have ever read or heard about is the death of young black African Americans who have been placed in a position where they are vulnerable to police brutality. Therefore, I want us to have the right to hold police accountable and the right for this young generation, such as ourselves, to be educated on the pain and suffrage our slave ancestors experienced and how they were deeply affected both mentally and physically.
