Chapter three is titled Generalist Social Work Practice. This particular chapter explains to us the different roles that a Social Worker must take on in order to be successful in their career. This chapter also gives us the different values and guidelines that they must follow to ensure that they are performing their job appropriately. If I were to become a Social Worker, then I would have to be able to take on these different roles and follow the guidelines to be successful. According to Zastrow (2010), some of the roles include, but are not limited to, educator, empowerer, public speaker, and so on (p. 70-72). That is why it is critical to understand everything that they are being taught when it comes to this type of career. These individuals are going to be responsible for working with people from all walks of life and will need to know how to deal with their differences and their different issues. The first three chapters of the textbook are in my opinion the most important of the textbook because they set the stage for the rest of the chapters. This allows others to be aware of the inequality that many women still face to this day. Women, centuries ago, were seen as the housekeepers and the babysitters. They were responsible mainly for cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children. It wasn’t until recently that woman were even allowed to work the same jobs as men, and even then, women were still not paid the same wages as men. It wasn’t until World War II, when many of the men went off to war that women began to work in the jobs that men did. Since so many of the men were off at war, there was nobody else to fill the roles that the men had and so many women took on these roles. At that time, more than 38 percent of women who were over the age of 16 were employed outside of their homes (Zastrow, p. 420). I think that that is interesting information because it shows everyone how far women have come over the years, and how much more we need to do. Women are still having to deal with inequality when it comes to pay. In fact, women are said to be paid three-fourths of what men are paid (Zastrow, 2010, p. 430). This means that even when a woman is working the same job as a man, they are being paid less. It is important for everyone to know about this so
