In Othello, Shakespeare writes about relationships and gender power between females and male who are from different classes and race. Gender roles and power has always been an issue in a society. Now man and women are becoming more equal than before, but it is hard even now. In that time, the man was superior and the power in the house and women were seen just as objects with no saying at all and they had to act feminine. It was hard to be a woman at that time because man felt superior and was encouraged to act like bosses to them. This kind of things are happening even now but not that much .However, we are evolving and making the world more equal for women. Here we can see the major difference between gender roles. He then becomes very angry and kills her in the end, despite loving her, he listened to a man. We can see that people believe in man more. Gender is a powerful role in Shakespeares Othello. Emilia and Iago are also an example couple who we can see the gender power. Iago feels like the superior one in the relationship and the one with all the power and Emilia is the feminine one who has to listen and pleasure her husband. Iago sees all women as whores and we can point out that he is a very misogynist character and sees women also as only an object for pleasuring. Lastly the couple Cassio and Bianca, we can see the power in him when he is ashamed to show her and be seen with her. The man here has the power over the woman as usual.
