Lastly, the discrimination of women due to their age also contributes to the gender pay gap. For men as they get older and gain more experience they get paid more, but this doesn’t always apply to women. Even only one year after graduating college a pay gap forms between men and women with the same degree (Goldberg and Hill). One year out of college neither male or female have much experience, all they have is their degree. Men and women with the same degree and same years of experience should receive equal pay, but that is not the case. As women gain more experience after college their salaries should also go up just like most men’s does, not surprisingly that is often not true. Tens years after graduation a women has gained experience in her field just as much as any man and should not have to fear for her job when making other life choices. In addition, The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap said that once women reach 35 they only get paid around 75-80 percent of men, compared to 90 percent they were paid prior to 35 (Hill). No matter a woman's age she will always have to fear getting less pay than her male counterparts. As a man gets older his pay is likely to increase, but the opposite goes for women. Though this is often not true if a woman were to stay with one company for most of their career, then she has a better chance for raises and promotions. But if a 35 year old man got the same job as a 35 year old women, the man will usually get offered more money for the same job.
