Gender discrimination is a massive problem in today’s society. Gender discrimination is discrimination based on one’s gender or sex, which is seen more in females than in males (Gender Discrimination In Canada). In consequence of gender discrimination, females do not have the same opportunities as males. The Catholic perspective is against gender discrimination and views it as an unethical issue breaking the Catholic faith. God wants us to follow the Golden Rule which is to treat others the way we would want to be treated (Matthew 7:12, Bible Gateway), but the issue of discrimination is breaking this rule. This issue can affect a woman and her physical health. Inequalities between men and women are increasing continuously. The capacity of women having to care for themselves is growing, scientific studies have shown that there still needs improvement in maternal health and infant mortality (Vatican, The Holy See Delegation To The Economic and Social Council). This reveals that discrimination occurs clearly in a woman's physical health, as men have more accessibility to health care. Archbishop Celestino Migliore argues that there is a need to eliminate inequalities in the health sector or else women’s population will decrease. The great amount of violence against women, particularly in the home, workplace, in the professional field and pension scale, are growing concerns. Gender discrimination creates an unacceptable work environment as it can promote harassment, violence and can also increase in employee turnovers (The Problem of Gender Discrimination in the Labor Market). Statistics say that one in three women worldwide are raped in their lifetime, or one every ten seconds (Confronting Gender Inequality and Discrimination). The structure and attitude of discrimination lead to violence against women remaining inescapable. Gender discrimination is also seen in school, resulting in the daily fear for young girls to attend school due to the rape of girls with disabilities, and forced marriages. These are recent examples that represent discrimination and violence against women (Vatican, Intervention of Archbishop Silvano M. Tomasi). These examples show how human beings are not following the Golden Rule, treating others how they would want to be treated, boys are not putting themselves in girls shoes and being aware of the constant fear that girls go through on a daily basis just to go to school. During the 19th century Aboriginal people faced a whole lot of discrimination in Canada, their beliefs and culture were considered to be ill-advised, this led to residential schools being opened for Aboriginal kids. When understanding residential schools it is important to look at the cultural impact it left with kids. Dr. Duncan Campbell Scott once declared, “I want to get rid of the Indian problem. I do not think as a matter of fact, that the country ought to continuously protect a class of people who are able to stand alone… Our objective is to continue until there is not a single Indian in Canada that has not been absorbed into the body politic and there is no Indian question, and no Indian Department, that is the whole object of this Bill.”(Twentieth- Century Education for Native Americans…)This is what sparked the entire problem with Indians and how residential schools came about. But, to what extent was the purpose of Residential schools rooted in cultural misunderstanding of Aboriginals. I will be looking into the purpose of residential schools being instated, activities that went on in residential schools and the impact left on families because of residential schools.
Throughout the world, discrimination in all forms has continued to be a constant struggle; whether it’s racial, gender based, religion, beliefs, appearance or anything that makes one person different from another, it’s an everyday occurrence. A major place that discrimination is occurring at is in the workplace. One of the largest problems discrimination issues is believed to be gender. Women, who have the same amount of experience as men are not getting paid at the same rate as men, these women also are equally trained and educated. According to the article Gender Pay, it was discovered in 2007 that a woman makes 81 cents for every dollar a man earns.(“Gender Pay”) . This shouldn’t be happening in today’s society for the fact the society lived in today is suppose to be more accepting. Men are viewed as being more popular, valuable and having higher powers than women. The Reason Discrimination is involved in the equal pay equal work is because of the significance it has to how some businesses pay their employees.
The Social Determinants of Health are certain circumstances that have an effect on the health and overall well being of humans and their own commonalities in terms of financial and societal situations. The reason why it is essential for us to pass beyond considering women’s health and access to health care as individual or biological problems is because women bear unique health needs yet so much health systems are not even acknowledging them. Racial discrimination in the workplace has been a persistent theme in Canada’s history as well as present-day times. The occurrence of actions and attitudes that impose a sense of one being less equal than another on the basis of one’s race in Canada’s workplace inhibits both our nation’s ability to move forward as well as strengthen unification within our country. The belief in a more egalitarian society, where one’s race and ethnic background have little to no impact on employees (or potential employees) standings within the job market, would seemingly be reinforced by the majority of Canadians, who consistently show support for Canada’s multicultural identity. Couple that with the noticeable strides Canada has made in the past several decades through legislation, in order to eliminate discriminatory practices and actions within the workplace, and one would likely assume that racial discrimination within the workplace is largely a concern of the past. However, current research supports the argument that the level of which racial discrimination occurs today is increasing, and as such it persists to be a key problem in the current workplace of the nation. In the workplace, racial discrimination is often seen with regard to uneven access to jobs, unfair selection and promotion criteria (as well as access to the means in order to meet this criteria), and workplace harassment. This paper compares similar findings of two articles; the first, Racial inequality in employment in Canada, as was published in the Canadian Public Administration (CPA), and the second, What Are Immigrants’ Experiences of Discrimination in the Workplace?, published by the Toronto Immigrant Employment Data Initiative (TIEDI).

Judith Plaskow says, “There is the fact that we address God as he. And it is not just that we use the masculine pronoun in the absence of neuter ones – we image him in male terms. Thus he is King, Lord, Shepard, Father, etc.” She goes on to mention the incredulous arguments against the ordainment of women. Arguments that stated things like because a Rabbi or Minister is in effect a Godly figure, and since God is used in exclusively male terms, it is not fitting that a woman should take a role in the clergy.

Discrimination is the practice of treating a person or group of people differently from other people (Webster, 2013). Thousands of women have suffered from discrimination in workplaces because they are pregnant, disabled, or of the opposite sex. It is crazy to think that someone would fire a woman because she became pregnant and needed to have some work adjustments ("Pregnancy and parenting,"). A woman goes through a lot to give birth to children, and men will never understand the complications a mother encounters during the pregnancy. Sadly, males think that pregnant women don’t make a working hand, which is totally wrong.
