It is hard to understand what most people are going through when not involved in the situation. Everyone has their own opinion and view on certain events that happen in life whether it is comfortable or uncomfortable. For instance a recent situation in today’s world has become a huge argument on whether or not it is alright to have gay athletes in NFL locker rooms. For men it is hard to accept gay athletes especially in the locker room. The effects gay athletes have towards other NFL athletes in the locker rooms involve a variety of different situations that depends on the teams such as making someone feel uncomfortable, bringing tension to the team and between players, and media attacks the gay athletes and the team.
Overall no matter male or female if there is someone of the same sex which is interested in the same sex in the same locker room, athletes will feel uncomfortable. Knowing that the same sex person is interested in the same sex as them makes people wonder if they fell something towards them in the locker room. The impact of a gay athlete in the locker room may cause athletes to feel very uncomfortable not knowing if the gay athlete is interested in them. According to S.L. Price in the article “So here we are, at Last” of Sports Illustrated, “There’s a widespread feeling that any players engaging in homophobic acts or dialogue in any sport would face the same—if not worse—abuse the teammates, fans and, certainly, management, as any athlete who comes out.” The locker room is a very sensitive area to have these kinds of issues in, since the locker room is a place mostly for changing clothes, showering and walking around mostly naked. Although the NFL locker rooms are mostly filled with reporters and coaches, people still...

...wn opinion on whether it is alright or not to have a gay athlete in the NFL locker rooms. Overall, everyone should be treated the same and respected no matter what they believe in. The only variable that matters the most to people is if that person is comfortable having a gay in the locker room with them. Even though the effects gay NFL athletes have towards other NFL athletes in the locker rooms the different situations depend throughout teams. Each team should make sure everyone feel comfortable, there isn’t tension to the team and between players, and the media does not attack the gay athletes and the team.

Duron is a “guy’s guy” who loves football, baseball, beer, and classic trucks. He’s super masculine and always has been. He had never met an openly gay person until he met his wife whose brother was gay. He began to not like when people said things like “faggot” in the locker room. He began to not like it even more when he had his second son who liked to wear dresses and wished to be treated like a girl. Duron and his wife discovered that there were many other children who were the same way. They discovered that not as many parents were as accepting as they were and it angered them. Duron has an older son who is just like him, a “guy’s guy” but he loves his son who wears dresses just as much and wished other dads in his position would do the
When athletes of opposite gender play sports together there is a greater opportunity for bonding to occur between the two genders (Cohen 228). This is turn, can strengthen a player’s social development, as stated in “Investigating Coed Sport’s Ability to Encourage Inclusion and Equality.” Too, this can benefit athletes later in their career when they become professional athletes and have to do interviews that are conducted by the opposite gender. Because of them previously bonding with the different sex in sports, they will be more comfortable and better prepared for it. It can also benefit them if they do not have a career in sports later in life. No matter where you work you are most likely going to have to work with someone of the opposite sex. If you play coed sports you will be better prepared with how to deal with the opposite gender and know their tendencies. From researching middle school students, Kelly Osborne figured out that what most young athletes enjoy most about coed sports is the chance to “interact with the opposite gender.” Athletes look forward to being able to play with other athletes of the other gender. Not to mention, it creates greater camaraderie between the team (Cohen 228). Coed sports create many companionships between males and
In certain countries such as the U.S, people discriminate against others to a certain extent based off their gender, race, and sexuality. Butler states that “to be a body is to be given over to others even as a body is “one own,” which we must claim right of autonomy” (242). Gays and Lesbians have to be exposed to the world because some of them try to hide their identity of who they truly are because they are afraid of how others are going to look at them. There are some who just let their sexuality out in the open because they feel comfortable with whom they are as human beings and they don’t feel any different than the next person. The gender or sexuality of a human being doesn’t matter because our bodies’ will never be autonomous because it is affected by others around us. This is where humans are vulnerability to violence and aggression. In countries across the globe, violence and attack are drawn towards tran...
An important fact that she includes in her article is that “A 2005 review in the British Journal of Sports Medicine argued that there is no evidence that a preponderance of muscle equals a superior talent for sports.” Not only did she cite exactly where her sources came from, she provided the reader with statistics that challenged my original view points. As well, according to Castillo, research indicates that “people who transition do not retain the athletic benefits from the original gender”. One last example from Castillo in which she provides the reader with helpful facts, she stated that, “In 2011, the NCAA allowed transgender athletes to compete on the collegiate level- even if they haven’t had the surgical procedures.” This fact really helped the reader understand the actual rules of the NCAA for transgender athletes.

Transgendered people in America have made many great strides since the 1990s. They have encountered violence, lack of health care, and the loss of homes, jobs, family and friends. There have been many phases of the struggle of being transgendered in America over the years. The current phase we must be in now is equal rights. There are many variations of discrimination against the transgendered community. In our society we simply do not like what we do not understand. It is easier to discriminate than to try and understand. We are all created different and we should appreciate our differences. The change must come by addressing the views of the public. There is much justification in the unequal rights of transgendered peoples. The Human Rights Campaign has been started to achieve equal rights for all Americans including the LGBQ community. A serious injustice is in the world of sports. Professional sports are one of societies major traditions totally based on rules and regulations that are meant to preserve the integrality of the games, but may not be inclusive to all its players.
...thletes but males and females should stay separated when it comes to sports. This controversial problem is dead and society is ignoring this issue by keeping sports separate between genders and this should stay this way.
In the sports world, homosexual athletes are often forced to hide their sexual orientation and to keep it as a private matter. This is mainly due to the hegemonic masculinity associated with playing sports. Homosexuality is considered the direct opposite of this and therefore is not associated with sports. Also the way athletes talk to each other in the locker room makes it more difficult for gay athletes to come out. Guys jokingly call each other homophobic slurs or pump their chest by talking about women to express their masculinity. Female athletes, unlike their male counterparts, are considered to be more free to talk about their sexual orientation. But, there still exists the misconception that women who participate in sports are assumed to be gay. In college and professional men’s sports it is beginning to become more common for athletes to be more open to talking publically about their sexual orientation. This brings up the question as to whether or not things are changing in our society so that the acceptance of gay athletes will be more common. More acceptance by our overall society as a whole will lead to more gay athletes – both male and female – feeling free to step forward and be open about their sexual orientation.
Although some people believe that girls should not be allowed to play on boys sports teams it may be argued that girls should be allowed to play on boys sports teams. I think girls should be allowed to play on sports teams. For one boys and girls should be equal to each other when it comes to sports. Secondly Us girls are super TUFF! Lastly girls and boys should be open to each other at all times.
In today's society, there exists a mixture of issues which tend to raise arguments with people all over. There are a handful of topics that always seem to escalate these differences between people to the point where one who earnestly participates in discussion, debate and argument can direct their anger towards their feelings on the person themselves. Some examples of such delicate subjects are the death penalty, abortion, and euthanasia. An issue that has in recent years, begun to increase arguments, is the acceptability of homosexuality in society. Until recently, homosexuality was considered strictly taboo. If an individual was homosexual, it was considered a secret to be kept from all family, friends, and society. However, it seem that society has begun to accept this lifestyle by allowing same sex couples. The idea of coming out of the 'closet' has moved to the head of homosexual individuals when it used to be the exception. Homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed of and we should all come to realize this.
In sports and athletics Gender equality is an issue faced by every single women, women who play a sport or anything athletic. On a daily basis, athletes go through many challenges, Female athletes have to go through other problems on and off their field of work. Female athletes hear sexist comments constantly most coming from men.
For example: a few weeks ago one of my best friends, who is gay, found himself in a situation where a group of extremely homophobic freshmen attacked
