Gator Ubiquity or "the gator on top of the world" as students call it, has become a famous UF landmark as it represents the culture of the gator nation, it is in a public space for students and visitors to enjoy it, and most importantly it triggers inspiration in those who view it. The golden sculpture represents what UF is all about, a community with a purpose, that challenges convention, and is striving to have a great impact on the world. The Gaton Nation is characterized for providing incredible opportunities such as career showcases, funds for research, and study abroad opportunities for its students to excel and reach their maximum potential. The sculpture is located in a strategic place on campus where students
A sense of royal dignity, composure, and stability are created by the facial expression, the fixed pose, and the rectangular throne and high base from which the proportioned and frontal figure emerges. Cracks in the face, neck, and torso indicate ancient damage sustained by the sculpture.
The plate, which is an exploration of decoration, is liquid clay or "slip pattern" of concentric circles around a valentine heart. This plate was wheel thrown, and glazed with iron oxide and copper red washes. I find it very interesting because it seems to portray more emotion than most of his other pieces. This can probably be indirectly associated with Fairbanks illness and how he was feeling at the time.
It is a way to show off school pride and spirit. But nowadays, the sports team of the college takes too much of the spotlight as some students aspire to go to
...best case for the retention of the British Benin sculptures is to accord them the unique status they deserve as exceptional artworks and exhibit them appropriately in a prestigious national art gallery, for everyone to appreciate fully.
Every Buddhist statue tells a story of its own. Educated person can say where the statue comes from and which time period it comes from just by looking at certain features, which proves the unique developments in eastern art, art that is so similar and different at the same time. Statues originating from same countries a lot of times are made of the same materials and are decorated in ways that trace throughout the region. For example there are three major features that characterize the Luang Prabang Buddha in comparison to those of the neighboring countries. The usanisa (cranial protuberance) is always embellished with a stylized flame; the earlobe unusually long is shaped like a snail shell; and the urna or divine frontal sign is never represented.
The main entrance and exit for the school sits directly in front of the sculpture. You can straight through Lutgert Hall’s windows and see the sculpture. Various palm trees and other foliage align the other restraints of the area. The sculpture is placed symmetrically between the foliage and is also fairly symmetrical with respect to Lutgert Hall.
The Vestibule leading to this entrance hall is identical to the entrance of the Temple of Erectheus on the Acropolis of Athens. The statues in the deep niches, carved by Frederick MacMonnies, combine “American idealism with the elegance of Second Empire Style and is in advanced realm by their lack of enframement or paneling.” The vaulted entrance hall, which leads to the grand staircase, is segmented into three aisles and is clad in Iowa sandstone. The arched central aisle has the names of prominent Bostonians inscribed on them.
The University of Michigan, aka Michigan Wolverines, has been a prominent name in college sports for many decades, in many areas of college athletics. From their gridiron glory to their up and coming prowess in basketball, the University of Michigan is steep in tradition and continues to get some of the best talent to come to their university to compete in college athletics. U of M has also been at the fore front of media and technology. Michigan was one of the first schools to start using radio and television to broadcast their games and is now at the top with social media and tracking trends of the population during their athletic competition.
Gold is a perfect example of the unique color usage in The Great Gatsby. In the novel, the Buchanan’s house is described as “reflecting gold” (p.35). Similarly, Jordan’s arm and shoulders are both described as gold (p. 47, 79). This is because gold is often representative of wealth in its purest
Anne Whitney was well known for her full figured portraits of suffragist and protesters leaders, she communicated her feminist and abolitionist view through her sculpture. Whitney accomplished portrait statues of prominent suffragists such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, William Lloyd Garrison, and Lucy Stone. The Lady Godiva statue shows lines, texture, and pattern from what I can observe as visual elements. The statue contains lines to outline the stitches in her dress. The texture of the statue is overall smooth, and the embroidery pattern can be seen on her veil, which is wrapped around her arm. I also noticed that Whitney used principle of design in her statue; Whitney was well known for her life-sized marble figures, so therefore scale played
I chose to write about the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty serves as a symbolic fixture of the principles America was founded on. She represents freedom, liberty, and opportunity. The location of the Statue of Liberty is an amazing feat in itself, it is right in the middle of a very wide and a very deep Hudson river, and at the time it was brought there, with the limited technology, was amazing. Adding to the location, The State of Liberty as everyone knows is right next to the old customs ports where thousands of hungry, and poor immigrants fresh off the boat would pass through looking for a better life. The fact that Liberty is a woman is an ingenious idea because a woman tends to be more sympathetic and willing to help, if Liberty was a man the statue would seem more cold, stiff, and even militant. Throughout history statues have been built to represent a great moment but the Statue of Liberty was build to symbolize a great idea and country. At that time in history people were flocking to America because they were either being persecuted in their home countries or they were just disappointed at the status of their lives and wanted to come to “the land of opportunity” to start a new life.
Throughout the campus, there are black crowns and blue Rotundas painted among the sidewalks. The blue Rotundas represent Longwood University and everything that comes with it, the school spirit, the pride, and the joy of being a Lancer. If one was to step on the symbol, it would be
Gwaneum is shown sitting on a rock probably intended to be Mount Botarak, the mountain near the ocean where the deity was believed to reside, and waves can be seen in the foreground. Holding Buddhist prayer beads in the right hand, the deity is in the yunwangjwa pose, facing forward. A green nimbus can be seen around the head, and a larger red nimbus surrounds the body. A water vessel in blue has a spout in the shape of a phoenix head; a willow branch has been placed in the vessel, which sits in a transparent
University of Florida gave me an impression of seriousness when I visited it for the first time. Like what I imagined, the campus is filled with sharp-minded scholars, geniuses, and professionals, who strive to live a good life. As I dive into its environment after the summer starts, I am now discovering its enthusiastic side, surprising me with passion, interests, and love; however, the most unforgettable experiences I have so far are my first fraternity parties. A couple hundreds of well-dressed youngsters huddling inside a small frat house, nasty smells blended with humidly hot air irritating my senses, loud music with somewhat catchy rhythms piercing my eardrums and impacting on my brain, hands waiving in the air while bodies wiggling with beats and the other hands holding the red parties cups carrying some unknown liquids, this is the place where the most underage drinking happens at UF.
Located at one of the busiest crossroads of the campus of Harvard University, Tanner Fountain, a project of Peter Walker with the SWA Group in 1984, is a simple, ecological design based on a circle. Tanner Fountain is surrounded by the George
