Auschwitz Gas Chambers A gas chamber is a room that can be filled with poisonous gas in order to kill the people or animals inside it (English Dictionary). In Auschwitz, gas chambers were used daily to kill thousands of people (Deem 13). Men, women, and children were all put in gas chambers for mass extermination (Deem 13). Carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide were what was usually used in the Nazi gas chambers. The first gas chamber created was called “the little red house” (Deem 11). It was only a two room killing chamber (Deem 12). It could hold about 1,200 people at one time (Deem 12). The Largest ones that came later could contain around 2,00 and one time “Auschwitz 1”. The Nazis were trying to create the “Perfect” aryan race, and they thought that they were superior to everyone else. They removed anyone that did not fit a perfect description of the “Perfect” aryan race. 1,095,000 Jew were deported to Auschwitz, and 960,000 of them were killed “Auschwitz 2”. 147,000 Poles were deported and 74,000 of them were killed “Auschwitz 2”. 23,000 Romans were deported, and 21,000 of them were killed. And 25,000 people of other nationalities were deported, and 12,000 of them were killed “Auschwitz 2”. The Nazis did not care if you were a man, women, elder, or child, they wanted to exterminate everyone that did not fit the description of the “Perfect” aryan race. The Nazis conducted experiments with Zyklon B “Auschwitz 1”. Zyklon B is a hydrogen cyanide adsorbed on or released from a carrier in the form of small tablets, used as an insecticidal fumigant and by the Nazis for killing concentration-camp prisoners. SS Officers would throw the Zyklon B pellets into the air and let it rain down on the prisoners. Usually within minutes, all of the prisoners were dead due to lack of oxygen.
