Game Board Game Essay

One of my favorite hobbies is creating strategy and conquest board games. I have developed numerous games through adaptations of existing games and creation of completely new systems. Developing new game mechanics and environments with balanced sub-systems that provide the game with a good level of complexity while maintaining playability is rewarding. In fact, I have found that one of the most satisfying parts of this hobby is developing a new game with a balanced system that provides many possible solutions and strategies to achieve a winning outcome. I have found the most important key to this is to pay close attention to the mathematics and statistics as they are the foundation of the play mechanics behind the story of the game. Creating

I find being able to adapt my mind to solve big-picture systems issues is more appealing than simply focusing on one specific area. I want to learn how to utilize many different engineering skillsets to help solve complex problems. I love to look at the interconnections of systems and people and the tools which optimize these processes. Industrial and Systems Engineering will fit nicely with another goal of mine which is to become a diplomat with the ability to bring about change and improvements to those who need it most. I have seen firsthand how poor infrastructure and inefficient government systems can repress a nation and allow problems to perpetuate. I hope to approach problems as a diplomat in an unconventional manner, by using engineering skills learned in college to better understand how to dissect a system and improve management systems. I will be able to identify system failures and implement effective corrective actions, perfect for solving third-world problems like a failing power grid or finding out how to implement a reliable fresh water supply. But then again, we must remember it is largely the people that make up these systems and the ability to connect and find a bond with someone that was raised in another nation with a vastly different set of cultural norms is equally as
